Everything old is new again!
Posted by PA24-250Flyer on Monday, February 2, 2015 4:32 PM
Hi All! My name is George Clover and I am new to this forum and to taking this hobby as seriously as I now apparently have! My kids are all grown and gone now, my wife and I have our first grandchildren (twin girls) and now I am reliving my childhood on a more "adult level" by building model airplanes. I, like a lot of you I'm sure, would build model airplanes as a kid for the sole purpose of damaging or destroying them in some imaginary dogfight! Now I just want to build them to enjoy them for how they may have looked back in the day. I am now re-engaged as a builder of WWII combat aircraft. I am sure that will evolve over time but so far it is a blast and it appears there are plenty of opportunities to build a massive variety of these things! I have not gotten involved in the forum until now because I was trying to learn and observe from afar until I felt I had a minimal level of competence. I thank a lot of you for help you have given without even knowing it! I look forward to speaking with and learning from you all going forward! George

Welcome aboard. Feel free to dive in and be sure to post some pics. Do you have a particular scale you prefer and planes from a specific country or area of operations.

Welcome---I'm like you are.  Long hiatus from this and trying to reclaim whatever skills I had from 25-30 years ago and pick up and hone some new ones.  The folks here have been a huge help so far.

Thanks for the message. I can already see I made the right choice in joining! I promise I won't be destroying them this time :-)! That Mustang build looks like something I would be interested in but not for a couple of months. I am starting a P-40 that my daughter bought me for my birthday so I need to do that first. I can keep you posted for sure. Should I just send a PM to let you know which kit or just post on the thread?

Thanks!

Thanks so much for the message! I am currently focusing on 1/48 scale WWII European Theater, so US, German mainly. I will start posting some pictures shortly in the correct area.

Thanks!

Thanks so much for the message. You are already helping by making me feel welcome! I am sure I will be diving in with questions as I go along. I know that there is a lot of knowledge that I still need and that is part of the fun in the journey!

Thanks!

George,

No problem buddy, the build lasts 18mo so you have plenty of time, even if you are a slow builder. Just follow the link I have in my signature line when your ready and just post your intention. I'll get you in the roster and you just start and have fun, Other than the rules, group builds are easy, you choose the subject within the rules and try to finish it before the GB ends.

Welcome tot he forums George!  Best place to ask questions and learn new stuff.  I'm learning things every time I build!  Used to just do aircraft and space stuff.  Now I've jumped into armor, done a figure...who knows what's next!  Remember to post pics and have fun!
