Returning Scale Model Builder
Posted by Toshi on Thursday, March 19, 2015 9:44 AM

To my fellow forum members,

The last time I built a model, it was in the early '70's.  I've gotten back into the hobby as a therapeutic release.  I suffered a work related accident and am now retired.  My first project was a Testors F4U Corsair.  It turned out really well for someone that's been away from this hobby for 40 plus years.  My current and second project is the old 1/48 Revell/Monogram P-61 Black Widow.

Back in the day, there was no such thing as PE.  Well, I purchased a Eduard interior and exterior PE set and boy, what did I get myself into!  There were some challenges with PE, since it's my first time, I'm at a standstill at this time as I'm awaiting my PE bending tool by Photographix.  I purchsed this tool as it seems relatively straight forward to utilize and it did not cost me more than $35.00.

I have taken the liberty in taking photos of my P-61 as a step by step build.  Wish me luck!

I remember building the Monogram P-61 as a kid. Somewhat complex assembly and lots and lots of parts that built up into a pretty cool plane. Good luck and welcome back to the hobby.

Welcome Toshi!  Oh yea, plenty of new things in the hobby!  All of us who made come backs went through the "New stuff shock"!  But it has made the hobby so much more cool!...and a bit more expensive, but well worth it!

Welcome to the forums and back to the hobby!  Be sure to post some pics of those builds!

Welcome Toshi  Welcome Sign,

Yes, things have changed in the 15 years I was away, I can't imagine 40! I think most of us in here has built the P-61 at one time or another. Kinda like a BF-109, FW- 190 or Sherman, you gota build one at some point.
Just jump in and enjoy, and don't be intimidated with the PE, Hello! Just take a look at my present build 1/350 USS Indianapolis and you'll see why.
