Howdy, all.
After a hiatus of about 40 years, I once again took up modeling two years ago at the ripe age of 61. I originally started with the model of the Disneyland Moon rocket, because my dad had built one when I was a kid. It turned out that I had to learn a lot about dealing with poor-to-nonexistent fit from the beginning, but I discovered that I especially enjoy dealing with that challenge.
My next kit was Polar Light's Robby the Robot. I was halfway through the build when I discovered photo-etch parts. Nothing for it but I bought another kit and do it right. Given the horrible quality of that kit, I learned a lot more and spent 8 months getting it right.
In the year since then I'm mostly into antique motorcycles and cars and am always on the lookout for something unusual on eBay. My current WIP are the Protar BMW sidecar racer and the Revell Trabant.
My wife gave me the OK to spend as much as wanted on an airbrush for my birthday. After researching what I wanted, I realized, much to my surprise, that I enjoy the journey more than the destination. I really like the many, many hours of brush painting and elected to forgo the airbrush.
At 63, my vision and steadiness leave much to be desired, so I'll never be a contest winner. But OMG am I having fun!
