Just a quick intro from a long time reader of FSM and a more recent lurker here on the forums.
My name is Ted. I'm 48yo and I live in the Metro Boston area.
I think my younger brother and I built our first model together around 1976 or so (a 1/72 Matchbox 'Zero' - gloss testors white, of course). I continued to build a mix of aircraft and armor until 1995. I have the usual excuses for leaving the hobby. While I didn't build anything again until 2013, I kept tabs on the hobby through occasional hobby shop visits, taking in a contest here and there, and reading my issues of FSM.
I made a false start back in 2013 to get back into the hobby by starting an old AMT/Ertl 1/48 P-40E Warhawk. Unfortunately I ran into a roadblock as I am an apartment dweller and really couldn't figure out a safe way to airbrush in the apartment. Safe in the sense that I didn't want to risk a malfunction (ie; lazy error on my part) that would end up spattering olive drab across the ceiling or carpet.
Anyway, I'm finding I can no longer resist returning to building and painting. I'm pretty sure I can use my outdoor balcony for airbrushing (weather permitting). Acrylics will keep the odors down and hopefully the neighbors won't mind the hissing of the spray. We'll see!
I am very impressed by all the great work I'm seeing on the forum. It's inspirational. I'm looking forward to participating in the discussions, trying some of the newer techniques that have developed during my hiatus, and sharing my work.
Here are a couple of photos of some of my 'hangar queens' from days gone by....
And this is the WIP that has been sitting on the bench since 2013. About to jump start this project...
