Welcome to the forum Cat Daddy. You've come to the right place, you'll find all kinds of value information, suggestions, and insight to the wonderful world of plastic. I'm recently new to the forum too, I just started back in the hobby after a long break since my youth and found the hobby had changed....or better yet....advanced so far, I had no idea where to begin. That's when I seeked out this forum and it's made my life much easier getting up to speed. Anyhow, hope you're back to stay and just keep building and building and learn from your mistakes. It's a fun journey.

Im now living in Australia, but I too come from Sacramento and miss home. Australia's not such a horrible place to live either, but I miss my Kings! Goodluck mate

Welcome aboardWelcome Sign. Be careful, this hobby can become very addicting.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Welcome aboard. Where's a LHS still standing in Sac'to now that River Hobbies is gone, right?

I'd  be interested as well. I'm heading out there in a month or so, always up to visit a LHS.

Also, I'd be interested in hearing your take on your HobbyTown USA's. I visited the Folsom store a couple years back, I thought it was awesome. The kit selection was great. Anything special about the other stores that might be worth a trip?

I haven't been to the Folsom LHS. I live close to downtown. The two shops I've been to are both excellent. RC Country is in East Sacramento and is huge with a great selection. Service is excellent but they're usually so busy you have to wait or hunt someone down. Viking Hobby is in Carmichael, is small with less selection, but the guy who works there is always willing to answer questions and help you out and you don't have to hunt him down. He's more game-focused and has a large selection of books and magazines that RC Country doesn't have. Apples and oranges, really. I love both.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

Welcome to the Forums!  Glad to have you aboard!

If you're having questions/problems, just ask.  The members on here are very knowledgeable and are ready, willing and able to help you.  I've been building for 68 of my 74 years and I'm still learning something new almost every day.

I've been lurking and reading for a while and finally decided to take the plunge and get myself a screen name. As a kid in the 1970s, I built a bunch of models, mostly Aurora monster kits, cars, and Star Trek spaceships. All of that fell by the wayside when I discovered Dungeons and Dragons and then girls and punk rock. About ten years ago I built a Mazda Miata kit (poorly) that still sits on my bookshelf. A few weeks ago my girlfriend sent me to the hobby shop for some tools for her (for parasol recovering) and I wandered into the plastic kit aisle. I purchased a '32 Ford which I put a third of together before thinking I could do it better. I then ruined an Italieri Sherman tank. I'm now in the process of putting together a Tamiya M3 Stuart that I haven't destroyed yet.

I appreciate the wisdom, inspiration, and comraderie I see here and hope to post some worthwhile projects in the future. I'm a history and vintage stuff nut so my main modeling interests at the moment are classic cars, armor, and old airplanes. I do want to make the Pegasus Nautilus kit when my painting skills are more advanced.
