Hi all. My name is Rob and have recently taken early retirement and as days are now getting shorter, I decided to move away from reading crime thrillers in the evening by taking up modelling again after a gap of around 40 + years. I decided to start from scratch and bought a couple of Airfix car starter kits. Upon completion, I decided to "mark my own homework" and I gave the VW beetle 2/10 and the Triumph Herald 3/10. I have now bought a Tamiya BMW Roadster and, hopefully, my scores will improve. My current weaknesses are not reading instructions properly, applying too much glue and poor painting techniques. I have joined a number of forums and have picked up some great tips for beginners and look forward to improving my modelling knowledge via this Finescale Forum
Welcome aboard, dive in and enjoy.
As for not reading instructions properly, sounds like your a real model builder already.
I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Welcome Rob.
Don't worry we all (well some of me more than the others) are still struggling with various things-- Just Never hesitate to ask questions. That way we all (well, me) learn .
Cheers
Building the perfect model---just not quite yet
Hi, Rob -
Welcome aboard, always good to see others joining the forums. So many talented builders here, plenty of help offered when questions are asked, my limited abilities have been greatly improved, by asking for assistance with something new to me. Hope you enjoy being a member and that we'll see some of your finished models.

As you are a UK modeller and I am new to this hobby, can you recommend any reliable UK suppliers for various kits and materials. All of my purchases to date have been at a local but small hobby shop. At the moment, I favour model cars but the more I get into this, I am also taking an interest in WW1 & 2 tanks and vehicles.
We are fortunate in that there are loads of on line model stores in the UK and getting items from Europe is quite easy as well. My preffere on line store is Hannants.

I have been ordering from them since the mid 80's, pre internet of course. Creative models is also really good. Both have a large range and i generally get the items in 2 or 3 days at most.
