Hi everyone. I am relatively new to building models and just completed my first model that I built alone. It's been 20 years since I built one but that was mainly just helping my dad. Looking forward to learning how to get better.

Two questions to get started -

1. I sprayed a decal bond on my tank and it left those areas a little shinier then the rest of the tank. Is there something I can spray the tank with to dull this?

2. I am planning on buying an airbrush. Any suggestions? I have never used one and have done a little research. The Iwata dual action is the one the guys in the store recommend. Should I start with something cheaper? Is there a book or website that anyone recommends to help me get started on using an airbrush?

any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks and looking forward to learning!

Welcome to the Forums!

I've used a Paasche H airbrush for years, and it's worked OK.  Not capable of really fine, detailed spraying--or maybe it's my lack of skill and practice.  But these are relatively inexpensive for a first-time airbrush-er.

Welcome Grinny Welcome Sign Just post on the forums and you'll get better.

You can do several things to dull that tank, Dull Coat spray or a coat of Future (Pledge Multi-Surface Floor Care with Future Shine). The second will make it kinda semi-gloss but protect the decals and any weathering then you can also spray a coat of dull coat. Other guys will have other ideas as well.

An Iwata is a fine AB for sure but there is a website that covers all airbrushes, their pros and cons. I don't have that link but guarantied someone will have it.

I have a Badger 150, a Harbor Freight and some inexpensive thing I got from China from the internet. They all work satisfactorily for me, and didn't cost an arm and a leg, but I am on the cheap side.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Welcome to the Forums Grinny!  Glad to have you aboard!

In the Airbrushing section of these forums, there are many answers to your question. Lots of guys have asked the same one.  I'm in the learning curve myself.  I just won an Iwata Revolution CR (double action) two years ago in a raffle and have been learning a lot from the people on these Forums.  There are also a tremendous number of films on U-tube that are very helpful.

I use Testors Dullcoat over decals.

Enjoy.

Welcome aboard. U use badger airbrushes myself and have a 100 and 150. I've had the 150 about 20 years and really like it.

I am a Norfolk man and i glory in being so
