I just recently retired and I'm resuming this hobby that I haven't done in more than 40 years. My, things have changed, mostly with the add-ons such as resin and pe.
I'm mostly interested in science-fiction subjects but my first real build will be Trumpeter's LCS-3, USS Fort Worth. I'm doing this because the company building this class of ships is in my hometown. The shipyard is visible from my old front yard. I'll be checking back when I get stuck and need help (probably pretty soon).
