Hay anither SoCal modler. Welcome. You will get both better and more knowledgeable as you  build each model, the old "walk before running" thing.

Never hesate to ask questions, there are no dumb questions.

Again welcome to the forums and modeling.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the encouragment. You are right when you say I have plenty of time; I do not intend to quit any time soon and in fact plan to continue modeling decades from now when I'm old and retired.

I may have actually started up modeling sooner because when I was six I went with my family to a ship musuem in San Pedro, CA and bought a small model ship. Unfortunately when I was building it with my father, he dropped a piece and we could never find it again. The funny thing is that the same thing happened to my father when he was building a fishing ship with his father. I have a few other interesting stories regarding model building in my family but this isn't the time or place for that.

Anyways thank you, Pkorson

Welcome Pkorson, Welcome Sign
Like Fox said, take your time and just enjoy the hobby. I started when I was 5 with my father. My first “solo” kit was a Cessna Skymaster. I applied so much glue the wings melted LOL.
After 50 years of modeling I still complete a build I’m not happy with, it may look great to others, but not me. We are often harder on ourselves than we should be. It sounds like you have plenty of time to work on your technique. It will take time to make you builds look like some of the ones you see on here. Most of these guys and gals have been building for years. You have stumbled on a fantastic and unfortunately, almost forgotten hobby. Enjoy the relaxation that comes with it and ask any question you want, we are here to help. No question here is stupid, we have all been there. You’re lucky as you have a resource to turn to. Most of us didn’t when we started, just trial and error.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Welcome to the Forums!  Glad to have you aboard!

You've come to the right place. The members here are very knowledgeable and are ready to help you with any questions/problems that you might have. The two main ingredients to building successfull models are two words, Patience and Concentration. Relax, take your time, and when in doubt ask questions. That's what we're here for. There are some times when a model can be built quickly and it comes out great. There are some, like me, who build very slowly. Some of mine turn out good and have won me a few awards at contests, and some of them turn out not so good and are still sitting on a shelf waiting for me to complete or repair them at a later date. But, they will all get done.

Don't be afraid to ask for help. We've all been there and done that.

Just so you know, I've been building for 69 of my 75 years and enjoyed every minute of it (well, almost every minute, there was that time back in...........).Wink

Relax and enjoy.

Hello from SoCal

Greetings,

Around Autum 2015 I decided to reject video games to focus on school work (didn't change much anyways) but this meant I was bored out of my mind. Finally sometime during December I got curious about modeling after looking at some old models at my grandparents house that had been built decades ago. So that day I decided to search up "F-15 models" and boom I couldn't keep my mind off of them. Sometime later I got the Revell 1/353 USS Iowa while visiting the real thing and that Christmas I asked my parents to buy the Revell F-15E at Michaels (still haven't built it). Finally in January 2016, I built the Iowa (came out horrendously) and a monogram F-105G I had picked up in a hobby shop near the Iowa (unhappy with it, haven't touched it in a while). Just today I've received some supplies I ordered from online and started washing the Revell F-15E parts. I also await the Academy F-15E "Seymour Johnson" which is apparently a bad kit. But for my adolescent budget a whole F-15E, as bad as it may be, plus weapons is still cheaper than a Hasegawa weapons kit of which I would use only half. Wince first discovering this sight I have learned a lot and hope to continue to do so in the future.

Best regards, Pkorson
