Hello! R/C plane enthusiast here shifting to model making :)
Posted by Armorex on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 7:30 PM

Hi everyone! I recently bought a 2 1/72 airplane kits to 'test' out. I have never built any models in the past. I read A LOT before even opening the kit! After i assembled and painting everything, i fell in love with this hobby. My background of interests include, making and flying rc planes, tinkering with electronics, freshwater aquariums and computer programming. Love photography too.

Made my first diorama at the age of 15 and started flying rc planes at the age of 13.

My prior experience in different fields of interest helped me in making my own airbrush setup which works between 10-30 psi. Right now i am using artisits acrylics. But i will slowly stock up on colors specifically for models. I am more of a DIY guy and i believe almost all mediocre products on market can be replicated and the only time i spend money on stuff is when the product is very high end or I do not have enough time for DIY. Alright enough about myself!

Well started from the brushed motor, bulky ESCs and NiCd battery days! Enjoyed the brushless revolution. Started from 2ch planes then progressed. Spent some time flying the QAV250. Did some FPV flying on the planes and quads too. Built my own pink foam planes as well. What about you?

I also used to do both flying models and static scale (balsa or basswood solid models).  In my school years it was free flight and control line.  When I was finished with school I could afford RC gear and took up that but still built the occasional static scale (now plastic).  I gave up flying models when I moved to Minnesota in 1983 (harsh, long winters, and always windy).  Now I am strictly static scale.

I also frequent the Photographing scale models forum below.  Be sure to check out that forum if you have not done so already.

Built stick and tissue and indoor stick and microfilm. Started with u-control and mono-line control. Went to R/C for a while but had a slight problem. I flew fine but I made lousy landings.Wink After loosing quite a few planes and equipment I switched to R/C sailboating. Never lost one. During all this time, I still built plastic models.

Haha. Yeah that's what happens with R/C planes, almost every plane crashes at least once! I think most of us started when simulators weren't a thing. So you had to "pay" for every plane crash!

40 and 60 guy here. Switched to electric until I almost lost a thumb to a 13 inch prop. I also don't have a convenient place to fly that’s not 30 miles away. Too nerve racking of a hobby anyway.

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.
