I started with free-flight and control-line, and moved to RC when I finished school.  Static scale (plastic models) was a small part of my building.  But then I moved to a place with nasty weather most of time, and other than an occasional rubber free-flight, most of my building is now static scale.  So welcome, many others in the group with similar backgrounds.

One tip about the fine scale forums.  Take a moment some day to peruse the entire list of forums.  There are some real gems further down the list that many forum users never get to, and are unaware of.  Lots of building tips and problems are discussed in the tools, techniques, and reference material group of forums.

Ahhh, RC. Such a fun and expensive hobby. I have 5 planes hanging in the garage at the moment from my old Goldberg Extra 300 and Great Planes Supper Skybolt to my little 3D ARF Pitts Python, which almost cut my thumb off. I still have a mangled thumbnail for my mistake. I just don't have a place to fly anymore so I focus my attentions on the slightly less expensive plastic side. I'm thinking of selling my RC stuff and using the funds for the plastics, but I know as soon as I do that I will regret it.

I sold quite a few planes and managed to build up a healthy stash with the proceeds. 

For the price of a decent foam warbird that only needs a receiver, I can get five or six high end 1/48 World War II kits. I can get even MORE kits for what I paid for a few of the planes I have built, and that's before I factor in servos, motor, ESC and receiver. 

This really is the more economically responsible hobby for me though, especially after having strained a couple of planes through the trees around my flying field...

Welcome Frank. I've only been back a few weeks too. I have the perfect place to fly RC, but between 3-gun, 3 children, and modeling, I can't open up another money pit!
