Hello!!
Posted by Ben1214 on Saturday, November 26, 2016 11:21 PM

Greetings! It's been almost 20 years since I've built a model, and I'm now getting back in the hobby with a 1/350th Los Angeles class submarine. It's just about to go to paint and I can't wait to show it off!! Oh, and about me: I'm 36, from the U.S., and my full time job is a 911 dispatcher.

Hey! A ship builder! Great!

Welcome aboard dispatcher Ben Welcome Sign

There are too few ship builders here, though I will build anything. That LA class, is that the Dragon kit? Another question there. I have a very old Dragon LA kit and would like to get her out of the stash and on my shelf. The decals from the kit are powder. Do operational boats have any markings on them while on patrol?

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Welcome to the Forums Ben! Glad to have you aboard!

I've been building for 70 of my 76 years and build whatever I see that strikes my fancy and my wallet says OK. My avatar, the Scottish Maid is one of my favorite builds. Took 2 years and made my wife so happy she had me put it in her newly redecorated den.

WWII fighters are my favorite though.

Thanks for the kind words everyone... I'm not sure about markings. From the research I've done, most have the depth numbers and some have the circles around the hatches (I'm assuming to help guide a dsrv). The boat I'm building is the USS Cincinnati SSN-693. My father served on her in the late 70's/early 80's. I'm hoping to have it done to present it to him for Christmas. I'll post pictures later today of my progress in the ship forum. The kit is the Los Angeles Class flight I by Riich models.
