Hello! I'm one of the new guys here
Posted by Gregifur on Sunday, January 29, 2017 9:16 AM

Hello all. My name is Greg (if you haven't deciphered that yet). Many years ago I built a lot of cars and trucks. Recently the bug has hit again and I just completed a 1:24 Peterbilt 359 Conventional.

That really got me going and I just started the Monogram re-released 1:16 Kenworth W-900 Aerodyne Conventional. I had this truck way back when and it sure brings back memories!

My eyes and hands aren't as good as they used to be but I've committed myself to doing these builds with as much detail as possible.

I have a Paasche airbrush now and have discovered the (new to me) array of incredible paints and products.

My wife says she created a monster, but it's always been there, she just let it out. LOL

I'm looking forward to participating and learning new things.

Welcome to the Forums Greg! Glad to have you aboard!

You've come to the right place. There are quite a few of us here that are getting up there in years (me for one) and the hands and eyes are not as good as they used to be. Lots of very knowledgeable members here that are ready to help out with questions/problems that you might have. Soooooooo, sit back, relax and build away. If you need help, just ask.

Enjoy.

Welcome to the forum, Greg!

I use a Paasche, too, a VL.   I had the same kind of revelation, when I first used it.

You mention your eyesight.  I paint figures, as well as build models, and I used to be able to hold a piece about ten inches or so away from my face and see to work.  But with advancing age (not too old, 52, but still), I've lost close focus with the unaided eye.  May I recommend that you get yourself a magnifier, like an OptiVisor or one of its knockoffs?  I bought one about ten years ago or so, and when I did, I wished I had bought it five years before that.  And I'd get one with an attached light, too.  Even with a well-lit work area, it helps to have that extra light on your line-of-sight.

I look forward to seeing your builds!

Best regards,

Brad

Thank you! I actually did just go out and get a desktop magnifier with daylight bulb. It's a circular 4x with a 10x small circle in it. What a difference! As much as I hate to admit that I'm getting older (50) it is inevitable. LOL

Welcome!  I'm kind of new around here, too.  It's a great forum.

Brad, when we met on Wed, please remember to tell me about your Paasche experience.  I've only ever used a Badger Patriot and I'm curious about other tools.
