Back In The Game!

Howdy Y'all

I have been building models since the late 60's ever since I snuck into my dad's desk drawer and found his unfinished airplane model. Although I can't remember what it was of, all I know is I wanted to finish putting it together to play with it.

I built so many models as a kid and played with them until I broke each and every single one of them, until I wisened up and just built to put on display, I could have had a decent little collection by the time I finished high school. I eventually lost interest in the hobby and choose more adult activities, like wine, women and song. Let me tell you, it would have been far cheaper to stick with model building.

I would dabble in the hobby through the years, but life's adventures kept me from totally committing to it, until now. I am now burning with the desire to once again start her up and pursue this great hobby. I have been purchasing the supplies to make my dreams come true once again. I look forward to getting the help from others as well as helping those that need it. I am more of a "Straight Out of the Box" builder, but now I am going to try my hand at adding those little extra touches that make my models stand out.

Building models is like a social disease: Once you get it in your system, you can never get rid of it. Ha-ha-ha! So what kind of models do you prefer? Aircraft? Sci-fi? Armor? Vehicles? Helos? Ships? A bit of everything?

I wonder what percentage of we model builders have destroyed our kits back in our younger days. Lord knows many of mine ended up as tiny little chunks scattered on the lawn after my brother and I stuffed them with fireworks. It's funny. I'd never do that now but MAN! were those some fun days!

Welcome again to this wonderful forum! Nobody here cares how "simple" the question might be! We all love answering them and helping out. No matter how old you are or how long you've been at the hobby, you always learn something new every time.

Thanks guys for the welcome! I read a few other postings and my situation seems to be a common theme. Life's issues come first, then the true love of the hobby comes second. Such is life.

I prefer planes from WW1 to the modern era. It just depends on what catches my eye. I build with plastic, but will occasionally build a balsa kit. I also like the paper kits, and at this time I have more paper planes than plastic.

In some instances I will build tanks. Something about all those massive heavy mobile vehicles smashing through obstacles that astounds me. I am easily amused.

You've come to the right place. I've built models for 70 of my 76 years and built whatever struck my fancy and the wallet said OK Wink . When younger, I put a few ships at the bottom of the creek with m80s and had stick & tissue planes disappear when flown off the cliff and exploded. My favorites are WWI & WWII aircraft and Sailing Ships as you can see by my avatar.

Boy are you about to enter a whole new world with aftermarket and photo etch. That and some new weathering techniques will rock your world. You'll look at your finished project and ask yourself "I made that?"
