Honey, I'm home!

Hey All,

Like a lot of other people, I am returning to the hobby after many (45+) intervening years.  I made a lot of models as a kid, but was never really good at it.  Just globbed a bunch of Testers glue and paints all over the kits and then played with them until they broke.

Now I am taking it a bit more seriously, and learning all the amazing techniques that I either never bothered with as a kid, or that didn’t actually exist back then.

I’m having a wonderful time!

I’ve built two kits so far (the Airfix 1/48 Bf109 E and the Airfix 1/48 Spitfire Mk1), and am currently working on the Airfix 1/48 Hawker Hurrican Mk1.

As these are basically practice kits for me I didn’t set my goals too high, but they turned out 100% better than anything I made as a kid.  (once I get a photo host set up, I'll post some pics)

I’ve got a few more in the queue, as I work my way up to the Tamiya 1/32 P-51.  I am going to be building that one in the color scheme of my dad's cousin’s plane.  He was shot down over Pyongyang during the Korean War.  His remains were never recovered, so I though it would be a nice tribute to build his plane.

Anyway, nice to be here and I look forward to getting to know you all and learning from you!

Cheers,
Mark

Hello Mark and welcome to the forum!  Your introduction to model building (globs of glue, fingerprints all over) sounds like my first foray into the hobby as well.  Remember how back then, we were sorta bummed by that but we kinda didn't care either?  Ha-ha-ha!  Ay yes, those were the days, weren't they?

I like your choice of subject matter, especially the Mustang.  I, too, enjoy building subjects that have some sort of meaning to me either directly or indirectly.  They really do make the hobby more meanful and it pushes us to do the best we can.

Yes! Find a good photo hosting site and start posting those pictures!

Welcome again,

Eric

Welcome aboard. My first model at age 5 was a Cessna Skymaster. I put so much glue on the wings that they melted.

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome!  Had to go back and edit my original post...  don't know how I got all that space between the paragraphs.  D'oh!

I'm going to try to post some pics tonight of my first two builds.  We'll see how that goes.  :)

Welcome! looking forward to seeing your builds.

We love pictures here!

I would post some... but a late night customizing session turned my camera into... of all things... a broken camera.

Dont worry about the thumbprint, paint it Rust , and call it "Battle Damage"
