Hello, It's great to get back into the model building hobby! Like many of you, I started building models as a kid, back in the '70's. My favorites were the movie monster models from Aurora. Loved the detail on those kits. I remember saving up the $3 to buy the Rodan model and thinking it was so expensive! Along with some of the other neighborhood kids, I also used to build military subjects. We would just glue them together, no seam work or paint and we thought they looked great. After the model sat on the shelf and collected a nice layer of dust, we would stuff them with Black Cat fireworks and light them up.
Forty years later, my interest is currently focused on airplanes in the 1/72 scale, with a few 1/48's for eye relief! WW2 and Korean War seem to be the era I gravitate towards. I also have a Revell PT and fishing trawler in the stash, and a Tamiya triceratops. Variety is a good thing!
Anyway, it was great to find this forum. I've already learned a lot in the short time I've been here, and I hope to contribute as my experience grows.
Regards,
Joe in Pittsburgh

That's hilarious. When my brother and I were kids we used to do that with model ships, filling them with fireworks and floating them out onto a pond to watch 'em blow.
Welcome Joe.

Welcome to the Forums! Had a few of the Aurora monsters, too. My favorite was Dracula.
My brother and I used to do the same thing with ships like the Big Mo. Put a smoke bomb up in front of the M-80 and put it in the creek. Smoke came pouring out and then the entire superstructure dissapeared when the M-80 went off. We did the same with stick & tissue planes too. Wind the band up real tight, light the fuse and throw it off the top of the hill. Loads of fun.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

I've thought the same thing! Wish I could rebuild some of those kits! We were bad kids! Not really.
Recently I went on ebay and did a search on some of those monster models. Couldn't believe the prices! A quick call to my mom to see if they were still up in the attic...nope
yea I looked up some of my old kits on ebay too. Wow! The history I destroyed!
Makes you apperetiate what you have... and cry over what could have been.
I dont collect kits to sit on a shelf and gain value, I build them.
About 3 years ago I ham fisted my way through a Revell seaplane tender. Acording to a few different websites its worth $145. Now its worth about $1.45 LOL.
The point is Dont let a kits supposed value (a kit is only worth what someone will pay fo it afterall ) stop you from enjoying building it...... Or blowing it up!
