Thanks little Timmy,

Timmy was the name of the main character in my attempt at a daily comic strip, see it here > https://timmybeanbrain.wordpress.com/
The comic business is hyper competitive so it never went anywhere.

I have a fondness of the pre 1965 monogram kits and am kind of working on collecting them, without becoming obsessive! I am trying to at least get a jpg of each box front, then seeing if I can find them.

The first generation of kits are still being made from the same molds and have move moveable parts. I feel like this adds to the fun and explains to the builder what these parts actually do. As a kid all I knew about these planes I learned from the little blobs of plastic. I didn't know they actually did something. Like the square on the bottom of the F4F wildcat fuselage is actually a window! I had no idea.

Also,

Model building is better than spending your paycheck at a bar or on some side tail. So keep it up!

anyway back to actual work. THANKS

When I got to the picture of the 1/4 scale TBF Avenger I told my wife to clear off the dining room table because I was going to build one also....... then she hit me with somthing..... still not sure what.....   Anyway  have a seat, grab some glue and dig in !

Dont worry about the thumbprint, paint it Rust , and call it "Battle Damage"

What a great eclectic photo album you have. I started when I was 5 building plastics and stick and tissue. My father was really into free flight and I picked it up from him. I got into scratch building RC for quite a while and I still have 5 RC planes hanging from the garage celing I just don't have anyplace to fly, so I stick to plastics.
I was just thinking about that Monogram B-58 the other day.

welcome aboard

Steve

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

That large Red Hot Rod was indeed Monograms 1/8 scale '32 Ford. I built all the 1/8 kits that they sold. The '32 is the only one I have left. About 2 years ago, I took it down off the shelf to clean it and the parts started falling off. The glue had deteriorated. I took it all apart down to the last part and I'm rebuilding it with a Pocher 1/8 scale V-12 motor in the rear. I have a friend that builds real street rods and, whenever he comes over, I pick his brain on how to do different parts so they look like the real thing. The only really tough part on something that large is the details have to be made more accurately because they show up a lot more than in smaller scales.

The reason you couldn't see my pics is that quite a few members, including me, are having a lot of trouble with our photo sharing program called Photobucket. You clicked on the pic of the kitten that was put there by photobucket when the problems started. Others have a pic telling them they have to pay to post now. As soon as I find a satisfactory program that I can use I'll be posting pics again. So, don't worry, the problem is not on your end. Another part of the problem is that I am an old fart who is totally computer illiterateDunce. The new program is going to have to be VERY easy to use.

Thanks Jim! Cool to find people with the same interests. when I was 8 my Grandma had a recreation room in her house. It had a ping pong table, an old piano and a cabinet full of board games. On one wall was a giant Red Hot rod model. I don't know who built it, where it went after she passed, but I can only assume it was a Monagram model from the 60's. That is on my bucket list of kits. Cool project. I clicked on your photo link but it wasn't working on my computer for some reason ... maybe I need to use a different browser.

Welcome to the Forums! Glad to have you aboard!

Great collection of pics too. I built many of those stick & tissue planes and U-control ones too. That Nobler was a great handling U-control by Top Flite. Built quite a few of them. Been building models for 70 of my 76 years and if my wallet said OK then I built it. Keep up the great work and keep the pics coming.

Saying Hello, Life Long Model Maker.

This is something I do for fun on inside days. I am a professional graphic designer, so I like the decals and paint schemes.

lately I have been looking for solid model kits from before 1960. I think I have built every Monogram or Revell model at some point. and every Tamiya kit I wanted to and can afford. SO this wooden model thing is something different for me.

I am also creating a Collector sheet of Monogran models before 1965.  Including Year : model line : original sku numbers : Org Price : current Price

I am collecting jpgs of the box art in a folder on my desktop for reference if you have any snapshots you want to share. I have some collected but not ready to share as I don't remember where I found them. ha ha.

see it here:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1-SN-mI_ZP_iGflZqq70OQ3XIraBNAqu4sGujkRrw91A/edit?usp=sharing

Here is a gallery of models I have built and reference shot I have taken, I will sort this out someday but there may be something you find interesting...

Lots of Shots of the Toledo Weak Signals RC Show.. amazing yearly scale event
