 I thoroughly enjoy duck hunting...and it isn't really the cost of lisencing that keeps me from it. 1. I have a hard time doing anything but deer hunting, with the time I have. 2. All the gear, to do things right...not only the cost, but the storage space as well. If I had someone to go with, that already had all the stuff...I'd be all over it!

 My cousin (lives just 2 houses over), goes all over the state, after ducks. He is quite a chooch though, and not fun to be around after just a few minutes.

Holy smokes...that is a LONG deer season!!! We get Oct 1 - Jan 1 (bow/crossbow), Nov 15-30 for firearm, followed by muzzle loader, which is typicaly the Friday after regular firearm, through the following Sunday. Been a couple few years since I've gone after ducks, and I miss it...that is a real good time! I can get a whole deer for a $20 tag...everything for duck runs about $60 these days. Best I ever did was about a dozen in a season...not quite worth it, when I can put 3 deer away for the same cost.

 

Yeah it is. They're a big problem here in Northern VA, only natural predators are Honda Civics and the few people that hunt up here so there's a LOT. The urban archery is anterless only...but unlimited daily bag limit, and in VA you can buy 6 more doe tags for around $18 as a resident. 

Yeah state and federal stamps are getting pricey, worth it for some people...a guy I hunted with went every day he could. We hunt on a naval base so that's only Saturdays and holidays (whole week over Christmas too). He totalled 59 so it's well worth it for him. I got about a dozen. If you enjoy eating duck that's still worth it compared to buying 4 for almost $30 at an asian supermarket. And it's just so much fun (when you see ducks)

How'd your season go? Hope ya got some meat in the freezer! I only made it out 5 times this past season...but I put two 8 pointers (same day, 10 minutes apart!) and a doe into "cold storage". All three were during bow season, didn't even go out during gun season.

 

 

 

 

3 over 5 days, I'd say that's pretty good! I didn't get out a whole lot more than you did. Urban archery season where I am is from beginning of September to some time in April but I missed the boat on being able to hunt the parks around where the county let bow hunters go.

 

I got one with a crossbow (my compound broke while I was shooting some field tips the day before), but donated it to the hunters for the hungry program.

Went out to West VA with my buddy to rifle hunt. We got 3 in the course of an hour, all does,(I missed a nice buck) and he gave me most of the meat.

 

I've gotten into waterfowl hunting the past few years but this year was the best year I've ever done so I've got lots of duck *** in the freezer now too.

Welcome back. I did the same thing, left in 2011, made a brief comeback in 2014, now I’m back with a good place to build. Wife let me sneak a hobby room into the home plans! We’ve got a little one due in June, so I’ll have to see how things go there...

Congratulations on the upcoming addition! (And the hobby room). I told my wife she needs a hobby so she can do hers while I model, she told me I have enough hobbies for the both of us ha!
