Hello from a noob
Posted by kf4mat on Sunday, April 1, 2018 10:10 AM

Hi All,

I'm a 52 year old who has never built a model kit in my life. Always wanted too and have picked up or subscribed to FSM on and off over the years to sit in my chair going man I'd love to build something like that.

Well I'm not getting any younger so this time I'm going  to do it.

You can still sit in your chair ...... just make sure the "Glue and Paint" are within arm's reach.

What do you think your first kit will be?

This forum is FULL of people who can answer any question's you have.

Welcome to FSM.

Dont worry about the thumbprint, paint it Rust , and call it "Battle Damage"

Welcome to FSM.

To tell the truth I've already started on it. I chose right, wrong, or indifferent to go with Tamiya's Pazer Kampfwagen II Ausf. F/G

If I am reading the box right the kit is originally from the 1970's but it didn't look to bad. So far I have the basic build done and aside from a couple of dumb mistakes it doesn't look bad. I primed it and used Tamiya TS-3 dark yellow for the base, going for a Tunisia 1942 look.

Hi Tom, welcome to the Forums! Glad to have you aboard.

I've been building models for 71 of my 77 years and never regretted a minute of it. Well, there was that time when.............Wink. Seriously, I am enjoying it all the time. I just started working on Armor last year and have enjoyed buildng the tank and truck I've finished and the 3 tanks I'm working on now.

There's no such thng as a dumb mistake. It's just something that isn't "right" because you didn't know the correct way to do it "yet". Don't be afraid to ask questions. We've all been there at one time or another and this is the place to get all the correct answers. The members are very knowledgeable and ready to help out with any questions/problems that you might have.

Relax and enjoy the hobby.

There's nothing wrong at all about choosing this kit as a starter. I think every armour modeller here has built at least one of these.

Hmmm;

A Panzerkampfwagen IV ? Decent choice . What I love about Armor , being a ship-builder If I make a mistake I can claim battle damage or field mods . Lol. Lol.

I don't know, my unit has a main armament displaying a permanent up angle, why because I failed to notice the bottom of the turret lock the guns in place alowing them to move up or down. Useful if you enemy is at a higher elevation than you I guess.

Your location is interesting, I have to travel there for work on Monday at the Cemex site. Any sites or places to eat that you reccomend?

Welcome. I am glad to hear that you jumped in. The water is fine. Except for the occasional sharks. It is what you make of it. Enjoy!

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.
