Greetings from the great white north

Greetings from the great white north

Well after an absence of about 25 (my first retirement) and 20 years (my first comeback lol) a return to modeling is looking great! And thanks to the information highway our community is growing and sharing like never before.
I remember getting my favorite magazine (guess which one FSM?), looking for a monthly meeting at hobby shops, for tips and help or a swap meet. Seeing a poor sap being looked at funny when a car guy showed up at a military enthusiast, when a plane guy had the misfortune to show up when the boats where coming into port! And being the outcast for loving sci-fi, before words like comic-con and nerd was cool. Now If I need help, forums, YouTube all at a click of a mouse! Our community is certainly worldwide and connected.

After a life changing ailment in 2005-2006, I built a workstation in my bedroom so I could pursue my interest. Worked for about 3 weeks bought some great models I wanted to make and re-live my childhood. Tested some paint techniques. Then the desk became a catch all and the models were lost in the closet.
Last month the desk collapsed (it was leaning towards the door and when I closed it, BANG!).So I called a buddy, fixed it and decided it was time for another comeback! The new issue is my cat now thinks it’s her new perch/bed!
I went to my local hobby shops and big department stores just to see what was out there and holly crap what I saw was the price hike! Seriously!
At one of my shop I found a clearance kit of the eagle 1 from space 1999 on sale tax included for under $8 buck Canadian! Looked online and people were selling it for $35 to $60, debate sell or build?  It’s still up for debate lol.
Now my challenge begins, who’s first? The eagle, cut away Millennium Falcon, X2, 35 year old history model of a Thor and Jupiter rockets and launch platforms, cylon base star or raider? A Babylon 5 space station? Or the NCC 1701-D I started over 25 years ago!
Some of them were started and modified for lights, but (not being an electrician) I need some help, the B5 station? I want to add a motor and lights on it to re-create the rotation and look of the station. The Cylon raider was set up like I saw in the FSM Famous spaceships of fact and fantasy (2nd edition) an added more lights.

This is my intro to this forum and community, can’t wait to contribute

Welcome Welcome Sign It's good to have you here. Ask away, the members here are very knowedgable and helpful.

It sounds like your into Sci Fi, there are several Sci Fi guys here. In fact, most of us do it all from Sci Fi, palnes, armor, ships, cars, figures and anything else we can think of.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Welcome to the Forums! Glad to have you aboard.

I've been building for 71 of my 77 years and build whatever strikes my fancy at the time and my wallet says OK. My favorite is WWI and WWII planes followed closely by sailing ships. The members are always ready to help you with your questions/problems. Don't be afraid to ask for help. We've all been there at one time or another. Good luck.

Welcome aboard!  I'd say join the Shelf Of Doom group build with NCC 1701-D and get that poor kit finished after 25 years ;)

Going to check them out,
Funny thing i just opened the bag that held the kit, hadn't opened it since i put it in there. Well SOB, 1 key piece is missing, the main deflector dish, fully painted. The only thing i can think is the bad break up i had with my common law wife back then, hell we were even arguing over socks we bought together, and i made her a trekky so i think she busted it out in spite. No proof, 25 years...statute of limitations of he theft of a piece of plastic... 6 hours for a $0.12 worth of plastic lol

BUT: just found on our version of Graigslist My NCC 1701-D, not a reboot, same compagny, make, and year, and the bags are still sealed, Picking it up in the morning, 7hrs 47 minutes to go!

Hi;

Most large V.A. facilities have a Recreation Dept . Now if they have a craft-room that's another thing .
