Hello from East Texas
Posted by Bis on Wednesday, May 23, 2018 7:57 PM

Hi all, I'm trying my luck at a wood/paper P51 that a friend gave me. It's been 50 plus years since I have built one of these. I would like to build one of every type aircraft that I worked on in the USAF, but I doubt I will find many of them since they were all recip. engine birds ( I didn't work on P51`s).

I am also working on an HO railroad and wood ships.

Since I now live out in the sticks,  there are no hobby shops. So I am stuck with mail order or a very long drive.

There are a lot of interesting post on this forum and it looks like I can lead a lot from all of you.

 Have a good day

Ken

Welcome to Finescale, Ken!

You might be surprised about what's available in kits these days.  I hope you pursue that collection of all of the aircrat types you worked on, and then share it here with us.

Best regards,

Brad

Welcome to the forums!  I’m in North Dallas but my job takes me to East Texas all the time. I always take the back roads to enjoy the scenery.

Welcome!  What did you work on in the Air Force?  My Dad worked on the connie in avionics in Korat and my brother worked on F-111s at Mountain Home AFB in Idaho.

Thanks,

John

Thanks all for the greetings. This is the third time I have written this and had it disappear . Tank Builder- I live in Late so, pop. 322 they say, I think it's less. Keavdog- I started out on a C 47, it was old then, built in 1939, it went to Nam as a AC 47 then on to a U 3 , in Nam I was assigned to O 1s, then C 7A, back in the states I was assigned to a HU 16, then a C 119 and when they activated the reserve unit at Hamilton AFB I was assigned to a C 124. I do have a question, shouldn't I get a notification went post on my thread? Again, thanks for the warm greetings.

Welcome Ken, Welcome Sign Cowboy

I grew up in the Dallas and Austin areas, and I'm here in the big D area again from Idaho for several more months. East Texas is a nice area from what I've seen of it.

Like Baron said, you would be surprised what they make now a days. It may be resin, but I'll guess if you dig deep enough, someone makes what you're looking for.

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Cheers

Spectre, all the good BBQ places around me have closed, but there are some great ones in Tyler which should be a little closer to you.

Crown R n7, I have been to Dallas For Worth air port one time, never again. It is large and confusing. If the kids fly in I tell them to get a rental car and I'll pay for it.

Oh Boy !

You have to visit our Rail Museum on the First or Third Saturday  ,of any month .Weather permitting we have Kids Fun day .We have LEGO play tables and the kids can hands on run either a Lionel or American Flyer train .

We do this from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. and I am usually there and if you identify yourself we can meet face to face . Oh ! We have some nice hotels and R.V. parks here too !
