Brad, thanks for the suggestion, but I am not great at scratch building beyond a small part or two.  I learned of a UK outfit that makes a deck and it is disbributed through Spruebrothers but they are temporarily out of stock.  I can order through the UK company but that will cost twice as much so I am likely going to complete my Corsair build and box it until the Eduard or UK deck becomes available again.

Thanks for the welcome, I'm in Mariemont.  I'm a member of the Cincy Scale Modelers, the local IPMS chapter.  What do you typically build?

I should have mentioned that I did not yet start building my first armored train. It is my newest interest area, I purchased a thick book on armored trains and have identified about 15-20 kits that are out there.  I will do my first build later this year.

Thank you for the welcome and kind words about Cincinnati.  If you have not been here in a few years, check out the downtown park along the Ohio River and our new soccer stadium is opening next month.

Brad, good to meet you. I am currently building a Corsair and next kit is a Brewster Buffalo.  Since you are a USN WW2 aircraft modeller, I have an immediate problem but likely not easy to solve.  I am looking for a WW2 carrier base in 1/48.  The sources have dried up -- one supply was now out of business Squadron's private brand and the other was Eduard who got impacted by their fire.  Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

Have you considered scratchbuilding a carrier deck base?  The hardest part is finding the tie-down bars.  You can use basswood stock for the planking, or even wooden coffee stirrers.

JoelR1225;

     I am about a two and a half hour drive from there. Still a great place to learn about that part of our military History. Don't forget the TEXAS and Lexington are here too. The TEXAS is laid up right now. But the LEX is available for visits, That's near Corpus Christie.

Hi, Joel, welcome.  I've been toying with the idea of building an armoured train kit & painting it in the company livery (I work on a railway), then taking it to work as a desk ornament - just to see what the boss would say!  I'd be interested to see some builds of these.

Vell, Zaphod's just zis guy, you know?

This might be worth considering. they are UK based (not sure if they have distributors outside the UK). I have used one of their 72nd modern carrier decks and really liked it.

Thanks for the welcome.  I love train museums, I just checked out your website, looks great.  I always wanted to go to your part of TX, I believe you are near the Nimitz museum if I have my geography correct.

Ha, thanks Steve.  Everyone in my local IPMS chapter has a stash, some in the hundreds.  I really only have about 6-7 and most are ones I won in raffles.  I try to buy and build.  I do buy tools and supplies like crazy, love finding new items.

Thanks.  I should have mentioned that I am about to start on armored trains, just bought a few books on those and there are about 25 kits that I found.  Sometime this year will dig in.

Hi Joel!

      Welcome to the most scintillating forum you can find! I model everything.H.O.-N.- And bigger. After all I am the sitting Chairman and president of the New Braunfels RailRoad Museum. I reserve a LOT of after-market H.O.-N.and Z. scale for my first love -Scratch-Built and Card Model ships.

     I also build the occassional Plane and Armor subject if it hits my fancy. Again, Welcome.
