Welcome Neil,

WOW, if you still have those old Shep Paine brochures then you trully have been around for a while. I would have keep all of mine if I know their value later.

Shep gave back then is still valid today, even if products have changed

So true. I was reading the one from his B-17 crash and there's still so much that we still do today.

Hi all. New guy here returning to the hobby . Covid got me modelling again. I was avid from  age 10 to 20 and got fairly good . I cut my teeth on 1/72 airplanes, then switched to 1/48 and got into weathering and scratchbuilding, through the wonderful Sheperd Paine pamphlets that he did for Monogram, which I still have. However, relearning is humbling to say the least.   At least I have plenty of material to relearn on. I have about 100  unbuilt kits  I have been dragging around with me the last 35 years, many of them unopened.   When I improve then I will go out and maybe buy some nice new kits, but until then  I guess  its raised panel lines, flashing scraping, and '80s issue 1/48 Monogram plane kits, AMT cars and some german armor. I have this giant 1/24 MPC Stuka I am itching to do. Anyway, You'll be hearing from me. Thanks, Neal Zimmerman

Welcome back to the hobby, Neal, and welcome to the forum!

I grew up on Monogram kits in the 70s, and I'll tell you: the advice Shep gave back then is still valid today, even if products have changed and more things are available to us than was available to the average modeler in 1975.

The best advice he gave, too, the root or base of all else, is to enjoy yourself in the hobby!

I look forward to seeing your builds!

Best regards,
Brad

Welcome back to the hobby and nice to have you here.  I'll bet you buy one of those new kits sooner than later.  Some of these new kits fit and are engineered way better than those kits I assembled as a kid.  It's really exciting seeing the hobby grow from what we remember as young builders.
You'll find the forum to be very helpful

Hello and welcome into the forum Neal.

I buit the 1/24 Stuka as well as the ME-109 and the Fockw Wolf FW-190. I enjoyed them all and I hope you enjoy the Stuka.

Please take some time to navigate through the different themes and subject strings. I believe you will find good information as well as inspiration; I know I have.

Reading your broad backgrounbd, you may want to look into participating in one or more of the group builds (?).

Anyway, howdy and welcome once again!

Welcome back Neil.  If it's the Stuka I'm thinking of, that was the last model I built before I started filling seams and sanding.  Took it to a hobby show and got some 'gentle' advice lol.  Look forward to your posts.

Thanks,

John

Hi Neal!

If it's the Stuka I think it is, I first ran across it under Airfix labeling. Whoever, if they were faithful to the original, it is a beautiful kit, in which I had no fit issues. So, Welcome back to the Hobby and Welcome Aboard!
