Back after some years
Posted by stenscience on Monday, October 25, 2021 7:24 PM

Hi all,

I was a member for a few years (from 2009 to about 2014), then retired to take care of my dad which took up some time and involved a relocation. After he passed I relocated again and am now in Santa Fe, NM. Only doing a part-time job and taking some classes so I may have some time to devote to building models, but my stash is still in storage 2000 miles away. The only place to get kits locally is HL, and they don't have much. I will be in Phoenix next month and have heard good things about Andy's HQ, so I plan to drop some cash there.

I wonder if any of you have recommendations for online merchants, as I see from looking at some of the threads that a couple of my go-to suppliers are no longer doing business and there are some negatives about some others that pop up in online searches. Any advice? I like WWI and II props, obscure jets like SAAB and such, seaplanes, and small ships, if that helps. I would really like to get a 1:32 Westland Lysander to replace the one I built years ago...

Glad to be back

Have ordered from MegaHobby a couple of times, no problems with them.

I must have joined after you left.

Yes, all of the above as well as Hobbylink, Hobbylink Japan and Kitlinx

Building a kit from your stash is like cutting a head off a Hydra, two more take it's place.

Welcome back!  As far as I know the only 1/32 Lysander kit is the old Matchbox kit and the Revell reboxing of it.  Both are out of production but probably available on Ebay.

Thanks TJS, that accords with what I have found...I saw a couple of the Revell kits listed on EBay today, and the sellers want $100+ for them, so I think I will wait on the 1:32 kit and build a couple of the 1:48 and 1:72 versions. In my recollection, I think I paid about $25 for the kit I built around 2010-it was a very nice build, easy to put together and looks really good. But plenty of other models out there...

Yea, I agree with you.  At one time I had both the Matchbox & Revell kits.  I built the Revell kit and sold the Matchbox kit.  I always liked the look of that plane.  There are some nice 1/48 kits of that plane.  Good luck with your search and once again "Welcome Back" to this great hobby.
