Welcome Mattias, good to have you back in the hobby. I think Monogram can fix you up with a decent B-17, it's been around for a long time.

I'm from the government and I'm here to help.

Like RJ said you need to decide what scale to build. For WWII Bomber If you go with 1/72 I would start out with Airfix kits, in 1/48 I'd start out with Monograms/Revell line till you brush up on your skill These kits are well priced for the quality you get. Then Id start branching out into other kits. Thats just my opinion though

There are no kits I'll tell you to stay away from. I used to say that AMT/ERTL would be one but Ive since learned that the worse the kits is the more it will challange your bulding skill thus making you a better modeler right? My last two kits have been AMT/ERTL :)

As for your Shorts Stirling I dont know of other manufactures but here what I could find

now get to work and post pictures Big Smile [:D]

Hello and welcome to the site. I can't answer any of your questions as I'm fairly new myself but it looks like rjkplasticmod got you taken care of. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I have so far and find everyone as helpful and friendly as I have.

Welcome to the FSMForums Sign - Welcome [#welcome]. I share your interest in WW2 aircraft. Heres a few replies to your Questions.

1. First you need to decide what scale you are going to build, 1/72, 1/48, 1/32, etc. Then decide which aircraft you want to model. Then post a question as to who makes the best kit of that AC in that scale. There are dozens of quality kit makers & thousands of kits to choose from, so there is no general answer.

2. Same as above. A manufacturer may make a horrible kit of one AC & a great kit of another.

3. Not sure, but I think the old Airfix 1/72 scale Stirling is the only kit around of that AC. It may be out of production, but should be findable.

Regards, Rick

Hello there,
My name is Mattias Check and come from Sweden. I am about to dust off my youth hobby which has been at sleep for well over 20 years. I have just turned 35 and have decided to take a deep dive into this beautiful world of modelling. I have a lot to learn. My main interests are U.S and R.A.F heavy world war II bombers as well as fighter planes. I plan to build some German too. Now, I would be glad if someone ould answers a few questions.

1, As I am a newbie, which manufacturers should I stick to in the beginning, Airfix, Revell etc? Which ones are most suitable to start off with, being a beginner and the modells/companies not being too difficult in the beginning ?

2, Also if there are producers out there, which in your opinion, are not recomendable due to bad quality etc.

3, One of my favourite A/C is the Short Stirling heavy bomber. I seem to remember Airfix made this one years ago. Is it still around, and are there other producers of this modell as well ?

Thank You Very much and Greetings from Sweden
I will be here to stay, everybody seem so friendly.
