Future Floor Wax and Flat Clear Coat
Posted by Anonymous on Saturday, June 30, 2007 4:34 PM

Hello!, Everyone.  I am a rookie in modeling building, and I like building WWII model airplanes.  My question is: Can you put a flat clear coat  ( whether it is acrylic or enamel based) over a future wax coat?

Here is some background on the model: A 1/32 scale corsair, painted with Kustom Color enamel paint thinned with custom color reducer, coated with future wax with decals,   and the model is washed and weathered.  I just wanted to dull it down somewhat with a flat clear coat, but I don't want to ruin my paint.  Any answer or reply wouldbe greatly appreciated.

Also, when you have two different colors of paint touching each other How do you get them to sort of smoothly meet each other without having a clear line of seperation.  Like a P40 tomahawk, camoflauge paint schemes, or the tri-color scheme of a corsair or a hellcat?  I think is called filtering (a painting technique).

Thanks, joey

can't answer your future ? but i can tell ya that soft camo (no hard edge between colors) is best achieved with an airbrush and practice, low pressure air, point the nozzle into your pattern and keep it moving, make your camo out line then go back and fill in. more info can be found in the forums just ask, welcome to the forums  had to try this new emocon, im very tired right now.catch ya l8r

Welcome to the Forums Sign - Welcome [#welcome].  You can top-coat Future with any flat coat, just be sure it's fully cured, especially if using a lacquer base like Testors.  I always let it cure for at least 48 hours.

As Rick mentioned, the crucial thing is the 48 hour cure time. I use Future all the time and have never had an issue with overcoating.
