What brand of enamel paint are you using with the paint thinner?

Sorry for the delay, Testers paint. I've gotten the thinner fixed, working with MEK now and paint is applying well now. Not sure what the Mineral Spirits is suppose to thin. But thanks for the reply.

OK well here's one problem I have some stuff on my paint shelf, "Crown" brand paint thinner (ingredients reports mineral spirits) undoubtedly bought at Lowes in the last year (determed by amount of dust on top of container). I tested with some paint and found the paint clumped up. Like I said, I haven't been in the game for a long time but I know that ain't good.

Suggestions?

Welcome to the Forums Sign - Welcome [#welcome],  I use Enamels for most of my painting & generic Lacquer thinner &/or Mineral Spirits for thinning & clean up.  No need to buy the expensive brands from the LHS.

Well considering the cost of thinner for proper cleanup and the cost of WATER... I guess when I run out of my enamels I'll try something new. thanks for the reply!Smile [:)]

I use acrylics almost exclusively, though I still use rattle cans for car bodies. To me, the biggest reason to use acrylics is ease of clean up. Simple soap and water will work for your hands (and clothes!), and Windex with Ammonia (or Simple Green) works great for air and hand brushes.

I would argue that acrylics spray better than enamels, but that's my opinion, and sure to bring howls of indignation from the enamel fans among us! Wink [;)]

You could even argue that acrylics are less toxic, but that's akin to saying a .22 is less deadly than a .45. It's true, but it doesn't make much difference when you're dead!

So long folks!

Thanks for the info, I picked up some thinner at the store yesterday but obviously was not the right one. I'm armed with the streight dope now.

I'm reading about the use of acrylic but have not seen why? So why would I use acrylic over enamel?

hi there, if i read yer question about thinner correctly you can pick up a can of mineral spirits or laquer thinner at any home improvement(or my case disaster)store for under 20.00 depending on the size of the can, these should only be used on enamals though, if ya go the acrylic route then tap water, isopropyl alchohol,or recommended thinner is best.have fun and dont hesitate to ask for help

Howdy folks, I use to model a lot when I was younger but when I got married and started my own business it took a hit on the priority list. I've been out of it for 15 years. I was cleaning out some storage and came across my pending projects, mainly the Airfix 1/24 scale P51. I had some of the some assemblies done as well as the engine painted. Long story short, I'm hooked again.

I've rigged up my garage air compressor with a reducer valve dropping the pressure from 150 to 25psi for my old Badger 200nh airbrush. Actually did some painting yesterday doing the base coat again. Checked out all my paint and cleaned out the old stuff. Amazingly not much had dried out in 15 years! Even the Tenax-7r glue I had back then is still good.

Reading here I see a lot about something called Future, finally figured out that it’s the floor polish! Wow, heading out to get a bottle now. So what else is new?

One specific question. I find that the enamel thinner at the hobby store is not cheap, I’ve learn to be cheap lately. Is there another product I can use instead of the standard thinner I can use in its place I can pick up at Lowes or Home Depot?
