How do you handle a wash? I've never done one before even though modeling for years. Never heard of it but when I stopped there was no internet to speak of. I like the enamels better also but reading and some experimenting show enamal on enamel wash doesn't produce the expected result.

Welcome to the Forums .  I use enamels because that's what I grew up with, but many modelers prefer acrylics.  Try them both & see what works best for you.

Ditto, I"ve liked large scale Military Aircraft, saw a 1:48 scale B1 once and was really thinking about buying it but held off. Once I finish this 1:24 scale Mustang I think I'll go looking for it again.

Also thinking of trying my hand at some of the WW1 crates. Maybe if thngs workout well trying a wooden frame and actually cover it with some material, perhaps leave a cutaway view around the cockpit. REally haven't thought that far ahead right now.

Also eyballing that new 1:72 scale Gato class sub that's out, I understand it's new, and BIG! 

Well as you can tell from my intro I'm new again also. Picking up my kit and seeing the results of time with my waterbased flats compaired to the enamel finish I'm going to go purely enamel for now on. But on the condition that I'm open for suggestions from someone who has more experiance and more up to date knowledge of what's out there.

 We both are in a learning curve right now!

What I did years ago when I first got a airbrush is use some old kit I had already trashed and praticed overspraying and and adjusting the needle for desired effect. Good luck!
