Hello my new friends:O) I am starting back into the model hobby and I really want to get into Desert Storm (Gulf War) models. Does anyone know were I can get info ( books, good pics), and models like they have out with all the WWI and WWII stiff.

Thanks for all your time and look forward to talking to  you all.

Welcome to the Forums Scott Sign - Welcome [#welcome].  Modern Armor & Aircraft aren't as popular subjects as WWII with most modelers, but there are enough kits available to keep you busy for a long time.  Run a few searches with the engine of your choice & you should come up with a wealth of references.

Hiya Scott, and Sign - Welcome [#welcome] to the forums!

I agree with Rick. But luckily most everything used during Desert Shield/Desert Storm is still in use today, and it seems that the kits are a-plenty with some subjects. Still see lots of F/A-18A's around as well as F-16's and A-10's (for the aircraft world) many UH-60's and AH-64A's for Helicopters and M-998's and M1A1's for the Armor/Vehicles. Of course that's just on the Coalition side. Of course decaling for that particular era might be a little ambiguous at best though. But as far as references, i do tend to run into alot of Desert Storm commemrative books with lots of pictures every time i go to some of these used book stores. What particular subjects were you looking for?

Warmest regards,

Roger

I was just looking for any kind of book with good color and detail to use for the models. I went to saudi just after the main war for operation Southern Watch. I do plain on building some of the WWI and WWII models with armor and troops. Any input would be very helpful on the best of everything (paints, tools etc...)

Thanks for both of your help and input

Scott

Hmmm not really an armor guy. Mostly an aircraft guy. but personally i would think your best bet would be to go check out some of the used bookstores and see what they have there. Also if you are looking to do something "diorama-ish" another idea might be to take alook at some of the old Times and Newsweek magazines. I think there was plenty of news photographers out there at the time. Just a thought.

Either way, good luck to ya! Who didcha serve with?

Warmest regards,

Roger

Welcome to the Forums. Sign - Welcome [#welcome].  I have been around this forum since January this year and found the modellers here to be extremely friendly and I can't believe the amount of knowledge here.

DesertRat I do plan to do some Aircraft. I worked on Strike eagles and lawn darts I mean F-16's:O). I work on aircraft every day at work, most days thats the last thing I want to see is another aircraft even if it is a model.

I was in the Air Force as I am sure you figured that out, I was in A.E.T.C when i was not in Saudi.
