Hiya, and to the madness! To answer some of your questions, I use a liquid glue like Tenax for most assemblies, except the canopy, wheels, and parts that I leave off until after painting. It is a fairly strong glue, but is easily weakened by paint in the area to be glued. For a structural joint, I usually use super glue or epoxy for strength. As for fine sandpaper, I usually start with 400 grit and work my way up to 1200. If you sand with anything coarser than 600 and don't smooth out the sanding marks, the scratches will probably show through the finish. The goal is to get as little paint as possible on the model so as not to obscure the fine surface detail. I hope that helps!
