Hi folks,

I'm a modeler in Eugene, OR and I model a lot of different items:  aircraft in all scales and media (except vacuform; too scary), model ships in plastic, resin and wood, real space and a little sci-fi, oh, and I own one tank model that I bought when squadron had their big sale in January.

Although I have a great workshop and plenty of time, since I'm retired, I really haven't been very productive for the last couple of years; been buying but not building.  I think I have a bad case of AMS.

In any event, with some not so gentle urging from my wife, I decided to build the Has 1/72 Lancaster a couple of weeks ago OOB.  I'm not even airbrushing the darn thing much less using aftermarket parts.  I guess I'm trying to get back a little to my modeling roots and hope that doing this as a basic build will restore some of the fun.

Also, have been a Fine Scale subscriber and member of this website for years but haven't visited the forums until today.  I guess I'm hoping that I will get some inspiration and motivation here as well.

Anyway, glad to be here and hope to get to know as many of you as I can.

John F Smith

Best Regards, John F Smith Eugene, OR

Sign - Welcome [#welcome] John!  How do you like that Lanc?  I just picked one up for myself last weekend. Thumbs Up [tup]

Hi Frank,

I like the Lanc just fine.  As is typical of Hasegawa in this scale, I think, it is a bit simplified.  I have also read that the cockpit interior is all wrong.  However, once the canopy is in place, I don't think that you can see much of anything anyway.  Seems well engineered, though and parts seem to fit very well.  I think it will come out at least looking the part.

I'm still waiting for the Eduard masks from Great Models.  I ordered them over a week ago (indicated that they were an in-stock item) and paid for second day air shipping and still have seen nothing of them.  I've had problems with Great Models before on speed of processing orders and I should have known better, but Squadron was out of stock.

Can you recommend another on-line hobby store with good prices, big selection, and faster service.  The only brick and morter hobby shop we have here in Eugene is mostly toys, R/C, railroads, and list prices on everything.  Instead of referring to it as Eugene Toy and Hobby, we call it Eugene Toy and Robbery (a very apt moniker).

Interested in hearing your thoughts.

Bummer about Great Models, though sadly I have the same from others about them.  I use Squadron and Sprue Brothers almost exclusively.  Sprue Brothers website is "live", meaning that if an item is listed as "in-stock", it is until someone actually buys and pays for it.  Then, the item is taken out of inventory.  I have ordered form them a few times, and great service.  Plus, they ship stuff USPS Priority Mial so it arrives quickly.  I live in WI, and if I order it on Monday I USUALLY have it on Thursday.
