Long Overdue Introduction
Posted by modelfreaks on Friday, July 4, 2008 10:50 AM

Hello all forum members,

First, apologies for not introducing ourselves sooner. We've been browsing this forum for 1-1/2 years.

Second, many thanks to everyone on the forum. It is an invaluable resource! We've learned many new skills and overcome some challenges with your help.

Modelfreaks is actually and father and sons team. My name is Tom. I'm 46 and have been building models since I was 10 years old. Like so many others I got away from the hobby for awhile. When my 1st son was born I started building again. I built 1/32 scale aircraft to hang from his bedroom ceiling. This continued when my second son was born.

My oldest son, Brandon is now 14 and has been building for several years. His interest is 1/35 scale amour.

My younger son, Jonathan is 10 and he has recently started to build.

Over the past year or so I've started building for myself again. My interest is 1/48 aircraft from all periods.

Here are a couple of photos of our most recent builds.

Tom's 1/48 Tamiya Spitfire. Built straight from the box. Detailed the cockpit with sludge wash, dry brushing, and future on instrument dials. Used Tamiya smoke for exhaust and gun port stains. Highlighted panel lines with a sludge wash and dry brushed aluminum for paint chips.

Brandon's 1/35 Tamiya Tiger Tank. He added zimmerit coating using Squadron white putty and a small flat blade screwdriver. Detailed by adding battle damage. Airbrushed camo and weathered by dry brushings several shades of earth colors and Tamiya buff.

On the bench:

Tom - 1/48 1977 Monogram P-80 Shooting Star

Brandon - 1/35 Trumpeter KV-2

Jonathan - 1/35 Tamiya Panther

Thanks to all again!

Tom
