I was looking for some suggestions/ideas and realistic expectations for selling a fairly extensive collection of kits and thought I would reach out to everyone here.
A good friend of mine who knows nothing about modeling thru an unusual circumstance acquired the hoarded collection of older model kits from a long time hobbyist and collector who died. My friend is looking to donate some of the collection to the Boy Scouts but asked for my help in selling the remainder.
If I was a jet guy or a 1/32 scale guy I would have died and gone to heaven because I just saw the collection today and oh my lord.
There is about 600-625 kits in all, and some of the kits are pretty rough as far as the boxes go and I suspect some of the decal sheets are no good but I am sure these are all complete kits. Many are still in shrink wrap.
About 120 1/72 scale plane kits - wide variety of jets and props and mfgs.
About 255 plane kits primarily 1/32 scale with some 1/48. Predominantly jets or props in 1/32 scale. Mostly Revell, Monogram, Scalecraft, with some Tamiya, Hasegawa or matchbox mixed.
About 60 large scale 1/48 bomber kits with 6-8 dupes of b-24, b-17, b-25, b-29 and even c-47 monogram kits multiple Hasegawa Fiesler Storch in 1/32 scale, multiple monogram gas passers in 1/32, and even 3 stuka kits in 1/24.
Armor - about 30 kits tanks and trucks almost all Tamiya: 8 large scale 1-25 tanks (Tamiya)
20 misc gun/cannon kits or figures kits
5 motorcycle kits
20 misc kits of monsters, dinosaurs, space related - 3 helicopters
25 ship kits - incl 5 large scale Revell kits (i.e Constitution Ironside)
50 semi truck or car kits (primarily AMT)
5 train kits.
There is a little bit of everything here and predominately larger scale stuff.
A few kits would be worth pulling out and selling separate but any thoughts on a collection sale and realistically what could one expect on avg if a buyer was willing to buy the collection or majority of collection.
I have some ideas but but friend would liker to get a fair price and does not want this to turn into an E-Bay piecework fiasco either as he needs his garage space back.
Feedback or thoughts or interest welcome.
