just did a count. i have 270 in the garage. these include most planes, wood ships, doubles/triples, ww2 armor, and e-bboats and u-boats (i was in a phase). some of these are started, some are from garage sales, club auctions, 40% coupoins, etc. probably will never build any of them but don't have to buy anything for club auctions, and Christmas parties. in the workshop/basement/zee bunker i have 200 that i want to build: all my warwheels and military trucks, ww1 and earlier boats, modern boats, rr stuff, helicopters (don't ask). my frau doesn't get into it at all though she did comment when i put the box with the chinese PLAN carrier next to the tree (it was on sale). "that's a big box." yes "and because that's a big boat."

Bronto
My current stash is 5403. You guys have some buying to do!!

If my stash was that big I'd probably sell 'em all at 7 bucks a pop and pay off the rest of our mortgage (or maybe 8 bucks so I could then start a new stash). Wink

Bronto, I seem to remember you had them inside a semi-trailer parked in your back yard ?

This is correct.  Geeked

I only have about 6 (for Real) but as Joe said my reference library is gigantic and always being added to.

The question was : How big is your stash?  Not  how big is your store!

When you have to store 5400 boxes, I cannot imagine how big the space must be where to store them...

31.  I'm in Subfixer's camp. I'm hoping to build the ones I have before I get another one, although I did see Revell's Rafale M at the LHS yesterday. Stick out tongue

I'm at roughly 200. Just getting my bench on modeling area back up and running. Had a minor flood in the basement that required me taking the bench apart. Soon. John

Let's see, I believe I am at about 120 or so kits. At least given the last time I counted. Although approximately 50 + of those are kits left over from my younger days and some that were given to me that I have no intention of building. I'll get motivated some day here to either trade or sell them or donate them to the Wounded Warrior program through I.P.M.S. My wife is quite supportive of my hobby and enjoys the fact that I spend time building. Although she does get a bit hinky about the money I spend so I temper that by working a part time job at our local used bookstore to finance my hobby. Although I buy the occasional kit if I find a good deal on ebay or something but for the most part I have what I want, My issue is that I am a reference book junkie. My reference library dwarfs my stash by about 5 times over and I steadily add to it.

Doug,

Sounds like a cool place to hang out and build when the urge comes on. The  wife sounds like a real keeper too.

I'm fortunate to also have the support of my wife. She even attended model shows with me back when we dated some 23 years ago.

I commend you on your donation of time and models to the W.W.F

It must have been very fulfilling .

Hi ;

My stash is down by 275 .I took an inventory and decided that I  could live without the duplicates of most stuff and they were UN-STARTED .So , I donated them to the WOUNDED WARRIORS FOUNDATION here in SAN ANTONIO .

I used to have a model building class for physically challenged vets in CALIFORNIA ,  and watched those cars and armor and planes become part of a small miracle .Instead of "  I CAN'T  DO THAT " I saw medals and awards passed out in the national veterans creative arts contest .Sure , the cadre of folks getting  the national awards was small ,so I added a trophy for having a " CAN DO " attitude .

My X pulled the same stunt, wanted my stash valuing, which I did, but since most of mine were were started, (some by only being opened,  Wink eh?),

they were valued (by an expert from my club) at UKP £3.00-£5.00 each.... Geeked

Since then I've got a silent compressor, an Iwata CS, & lots more stash, 250-300, (90% armour)

AND my partner Left HugRight Hug, she's defo a keeper, even goes to hobby shows with me, & won a 1/48th Canberra for me! Wink

I store them in the basement.  It's a fairly large basement. I have shelving I store them on. The armor, all 1/35, kits are arranged by manufacturer and by type, ie: Dragon Panthers, Stug etc together, etc. Same for A/c and sci-fi kits. So I can tell at a glance what I have. I have no kits stored any where else in the house. My workbench is there also, so it's rather nice.  I does get a little cramped around the pool table though.  But with a bit of care we still play pool.   That's the only problem my wife has, but otherwise she doesn't mind at all.  She never really ever goes to the basement. Her deal is books.  I do all the laundry  there as well, so it works out well.

Doug

Oh, some of the kits are really just collectables, and I have no plans to build them,  otherwise, I really want to build the rest..  Really

Wow!

Doug you are the manBow DownI

I'm curious as to were you store them. My collection consists mostly of 1/72 armor , so storage becomes a little more manageable.

My self about 900.

Around 2,000.   I build about 35 a year, but buy almost that.  Mostly armor.  I'm glad so many new kits are softskins.  I have zero interest in them, so maybe I won't be getting so many in the near future.  I have quite a few aircraft as well, but all the ones I like, I have, so again, I think I have almost everything I like, almost...

@Eagle90: You have a good wife, when she's carrying the boxes around... :)

Too funny!  I got the image of her carrying those boxes as I read that!  No, she would be watching TMO (military movers) packing our stuff and comment on how it would take a couple of hours for them to wrap and pack about 15-20 boxes (medium to large size) with just models in them!  She would wonder if we would hit our max weight/amount allotment for the move!  :)

About 60 but some of the boxes have two, three and even four kits in them so a better estimate would be 80. I tend to compress kits to save space. Thats what you should do to the  X!   Compresssssssss.....

@subfixer: That is what I'm doing on this moment. I have some models for sale, the rest I probebly gonna build. These 20 boxes keep me busy for a while...

I have ten. But I have been up to 75 or so. I made up my mind to build the ones I had before buying more. I only have the 10 to go before I can justify to myself getting more. Life is short and I would hate to see perfectly good model kits going to waste after I am gone. After these are done, I am only going to get one at a time and complete that one before I get another one. Like when I was a kid. It gives me incentive to complete them quickly.

I'm from the government and I'm here to help.
