Tarn Ship, its much different now. DI's can't even cuss at recruits now.

Boy! That surely must take the fun out of it. I just can't get that through my head. Can't even cuss at 'em? Why! The next thing you know they won't let the DIs beat them up. Ahhh! The good ol' days.

But really, I just can't imagine boot camp without all of that abusive treatment. They must have some newer methods for putting the fear of God in them.

It is sort of funny, my Uncles called me ten different kinds of *female kitty* because I went to boot in Hollywood 15 and 25 years later than they each went to Paris Island,,,,,,,,,they seemed to think that 1975 boot camp was "soft"

I did hear about the stress cards from my lady, she was Army SSgt in the '80s

I also wonder how the "tear them down to build them over again, but stronger" can be done without the stress

oh, well, different methods for different times,,,,,,,,we ARE supposed to be evolving and learning, after all

AHA ! OOOOH RAH and SEMPER FI ! ! Now for a bit of levity .When I was a little shaver , (too little to even get on a military base) ,I always wondered in wonderful kid logic .How do you instruct a drill ? He's got his work cut out for him .I be an old " Fleet Marine " and  wanted that job .They said NO ! I didn't get seasick ! ! Anyway , I wish him well and thanks for taking my place ,because at 70 they said I am to old ! !       Tanker-Builder

When I went through Navy boot (didn't enlist until I was 30), the thing I noticed was that the young guys and girls all thought the military "owed" them something.  This sense of entitlement is what is making sailors and soldiers so hard to do.  Coddling..

Anyway, best of luck to him!
