He is planning on 20 or more years in the Corps. He wants to work up to CWO and then become an officer retiring at a Major possibly. I think that is what he said.

Congratulations to both your son & you and your wife.  You obviously both did a fine job of raising that young man be motivated and goal oriented.

Congrats!  But just let him know he is still Dept. of the Navy  Big Smile

When I went through Navy boot (didn't enlist until I was 30), the thing I noticed was that the young guys and girls all thought the military "owed" them something.  This sense of entitlement is what is making sailors and soldiers so hard to do.  Coddling..

Anyway, best of luck to him!

Tarnship, in reference to MCRD San Diego being easier I say BS! They have mountains that you hump up with all your gear and the infamous Mount MF! lol My son said he prefers the humidity and heat of Parris Island to the mountains at Camp Pendleton.

They have sand fleas at Parris Island so making them miserable is not that hard. Haha

I just got a new Black and Decker two speed drill...If I have any questions, I'll send them to you to ask him.....thanks...

Most of my friends are imaginary

Sell your watch, because time is money $$

In Canada hwy speed is measured by number of moose tracks per hockey goal.

I'll bet you they call them all kinds of things when they get them where there are no witnesses.

It is sort of funny, my Uncles called me ten different kinds of *female kitty* because I went to boot in Hollywood 15 and 25 years later than they each went to Paris Island,,,,,,,,,they seemed to think that 1975 boot camp was "soft"

I did hear about the stress cards from my lady, she was Army SSgt in the '80s

I also wonder how the "tear them down to build them over again, but stronger" can be done without the stress

oh, well, different methods for different times,,,,,,,,we ARE supposed to be evolving and learning, after all

Tarn Ship, its much different now. DI's can't even cuss at recruits now.

Boy! That surely must take the fun out of it. I just can't get that through my head. Can't even cuss at 'em? Why! The next thing you know they won't let the DIs beat them up. Ahhh! The good ol' days.

But really, I just can't imagine boot camp without all of that abusive treatment. They must have some newer methods for putting the fear of God in them.

Thank You everyone. I appreciate the kind words. He has a tough road ahead of him as being a DI is a brutal job.

Pass on a Semper Fi from me (and someday ask him if they still do the "dumpster trick" in boot camp,,,,,,,if they do, ask him to tell you how it works,,,,,,,you will laugh your tail off)

We watched our son accept his Smokey Bear hat yesterday at Parris Island, SC where he is now a Drill Instructor with 1st Battalion Delta Company. We are very proud.
