I work at a hobby shop.  It was a Align T-Rex 700.  Rotor span is around 3ft., per blade.  Add the width of the rotor head,and you're talking almost a 7ft. blade arc.

It is believed he was performing a trick where the heli comes right at him, then reverses before it would hit him in the head.  He was an experienced flyer, not a newb.  All happened in front of his dad.

Third fatality this year;all experienced r.c. pilots.

This is the most wicked-cool use of a RC heli that I've seen yet. Some guy strapped a camera to one and flew it through the old Huber Coal Breaker in Ashley, Pa. This breaker is the last remaining intact breaker in Pennsylvania Coal region where I grew up--I've been in the ol' girl at least a half dozen times, and have over 2,000 photos of it. Sadly, the previous owner went into bankruptcy and it was just sold to a scrapping company. Its legacy and status as a memorial to all who worked the best and richest anthracite coal mines in the world meant nothing to the people who could've done something to preserve this priceless treasure.

One of the champs from the last five years is a 19 yr old from Tulsa(of course I can't remember his name),won it when he was 18.  Saw a video of him flying in a parking lot at night.

Either he is good or they aren't showing the guy with the real transmitter who is off camera.

I saw "T-Rex 700N" mentioned in one report. That is one big bird, with a rotor span of some 1562mm.

Funny, wonder why they are in power...?

Here in the Peoples' Republic of Boulder County, Colorado, it is illegal to fly any kind of RC aircraft anywhere.

Can they do that?  Probably not, but the place is run by left wing politicians, and they pretty much do whatever they want.

When I was doing some R/C flying with my son some years back, we used to pack up and leave when somebody showed up with a helicopter.

No offense intended towards R/C helicopter fans, R/C helicopter are very cool and it takes skill to fly them. They just scared us both.

Sad accident.

They don't call 'em "choppers" for nothing.

It's kind of frightening, as it could have been anyone around.

I once saw the local weatherman crash and total an electric helicopter model in the main room of the LHS. I once saw a guy total a gas powered chopper at an airshow. Guy standing next to me says "there goes $ 5000!).

With the proliferation of privately owned and operated drones today,there needs to be a "soft rotor" technology if there is not already.

Yes i heard about that!i guess if you are into R/C helis you better wear a bike helmet.I guess he was literally scalped!
