U.S.S. Forrestal

Just saw on cnn.com that the Navy sold the U.S.S. Forrestal for a penny.  I wish I knew.  I would have paid 2 cents for it. . My annoying neighbor thinks his boat is cool.  That would have shut him up.  Zip it!

You're gonna need a bigger truck to tow it, too.

It's going to scrap.  To bad they couldn't have saved it as a museum some where.  Oh,well.

Stikpusher, you're forgetting the right-of-way rule:  Tonnage.

Sad to see her go to the scrapyard .

Got an older brother that served on her late 50's. Still have  some photo books from 1959.

IIRC, about 10-15yrs ago, there was an article in FSM on a modeler who built a large scale replica of the Forrestal (the hangar deck was lit, tow motors moved & rotors turned) and would update it when she was refit.....I wonder what he's gonna do with the model now?Hmm

Hey ! Stik !

That is funny .You should've been around where I lived when I came home to the marina where I lived ,with my auction prize . I told the marina owner it was big and he said " Put it at the guest dock for now " You shoulda seen his face when the 110 foot former CG cutter ( bouytender ) moved into place !

We had to motor dredge a space for it .(motor dredging is when you use the boat or small ship,s screws to remove sand  , silt and other stuff so it can be moored in one place ) It was fun though .I wonder , Can I buy the Enterprise for a penny ?I need a new airport in town ! HE . HE . LOL . LOL.     P.S. Can you retrofit a tailhook on a piper ?

TB, that would have been quite a thing to see. A 110' cutter? Nice auction prize!

As big as Enterprise is and with proper wind condtions, I bet you could land a Piper on her without a hook.

Since the ship can be turned in any direction, you can advertise it as "no landing delays due to wind from unfavorable direction". Oh, and "we can park the airport in front of your beach house".

Hmmmm...any venture capitalists here?
