Battle of the bulge wasn't  a terrible in and of itself. They just should have named it something else. The story line is pure fiction

That's pretty funny,I do like that one !! Big Smile

I agree that from the standpoint of historical accuracy "Battle of the Bulge" was a sad joke.  I will stick up for one aspect of it, though:  the music.  One of the best scores I've heard.

Thanks for the link.
I also enjoy the music score.

I agree that from the standpoint of historical accuracy "Battle of the Bulge" was a sad joke.  I will stick up for one aspect of it, though:  the music.  One of the best scores I've heard.  I've been known to watch the movie on cable just to hear the music.

Fortunately the score, by a British composer named Benjamin Frankel (who wrote plenty of compositions beyond movie scores) has been re-recorded recently by a fine Australian (!) orchestra:  www.arkivmusic.com/.../Drilldown .  I ordered it from Arkiv Music ( www.arkivmusic.com ); it's a pretty terrific CD.  Highly recommended.  Buy the CD and you won't have to watch the movie.

The thing I can't stomach about the "BoB" movie is the wide, open plains that the "Germans" tanks are situated upon. I mean, this was supposed to be the Ardenne MOUNTAIN range, Herr Direktor?

Now you've got me curious!  When does the battleship defy physics?  LOL!  I like "Pearl Harbor" in spite of, or maybe because of, all it's campy-ness.  Maybe I'll watch that over the weekend while I'm working on a kit.

I know that several of the ships in the background are modern ships.  That's pretty funny in an of itself.

My dad took me to see it in the theater as he was just opposite 17th SS GVB at the time of the battle ..............now that I know more about the battle....I can't help but wonder how he resisted walking out..........

I don't ever recall my dad watching it again when broadcast as a tv rerun.

Battle of the Bulge is my pick as well. But I still seem to watch it whenever I come across it.

GMorrison

If Rommel had a platoon of Leopard A2's would the outcome be the same?

"Battle of the Bulge" is pretty bad.

so bad it made me wanna shoot down Henry Fonda's airplane so it would crash into Werner Peters' "cellar".............Wink
At least Robert Shaw did a better job in "From Russia with Love" and "Battle of Britain".
BTW.....speaking of actors........"Book Him, Danno!" Whistling
Actually, I like Battle of the Bulge much better than that "Pearl Harbor" movie with the CGI  fighters and a battleship that defies physicsSuper Angry

Worst spaghetti war movie - ever!

I just watched "the Battle of El Alamein"  A spaghetti war movie from 1969.  It basically told the story of the Folgore Division and how they were practically wiped out so the Afrika Korps could retreat successfully (movie is slanted heavily in the Italians favour)  I could handle M48's and M51's being passed off as battle tanks, as was the custom in 1960's/1970's war movies, but when a squadron of M113's came over the sand dunes as british bren gun carriers,I laughed my head off.  I think they may even still have had the Syrian markings on them ? (White and green triangle)
