Happy Coast Guard Day!

For all of those who served in the most forgotten about US armed forces, Happy Coast Guard Day!

I went the annual 4th of July celebration where I live several years back and the announcer was naming off all the forces that served the country. She named Army, Navy, Marines, Air Force, Police, Firefighters but completely forgot, or didn't even know about the Coast Guard, the oldest sea going service in the US. I was so ticked that I left right then and have never gone back. My wife won't even ask about going again (she was pretty set off as well).

Anyway, to all those who have/are serving in the Army, Navy Marines, Air Force, Police, Firefighters AND Coast Guard all over this big beautiful world.....happy Coast Guard Day!!!!!!

Well the Coast Guard is one of those agencies that has differing missions and bosses. In peacetime they are a law enforcement agency and originally fell under Department of the Treasury until the post 9/11 revamp of things, after which it became part of Homeland Security. It becomes part of Department of Defense, and then legally an armed service, at the direction of the President in time of war. Law enforcement and armed services are two different animals. So you can understand the confusion on some folks part.

But yes, a Happy Coast Guard Day to all of that particular breed of swabbies ;)
