Revenant...meh...

The bear scene went down like how I thought bear attacks would be. Damn.

Oh man... those are awesome stories!  I can see why you hate them!  Dang, they sure have an incredbile sence of smell.  What a scary way to wake up in your tent. I don't think I'd camp there again.

Thanks for sharing those stories. I am glad they didn't get into it with you guys and pull you out by its teeth.

Watched two bears destroy a mini van. Kids had left the usual stale fries under the back seat.

Lesson; if you park your car in bear country, get a FULL service car wash beforehand.

Sure.

Anywhere inside Yosemite, the bears have the upper hand. You can't shoot them, which would be stupid anyways. But they have no fear. In campgrounds where a truck can get in to install it, there are big steel lockers. But in the high country, the only bear proof is a cable about thirty feet up between two trees, and a long pole and hook to hang your stuff out in the middle. But that's easy work- they send up a cub.

Why I mostly hiked outside the Park, where at least the bears have some fear of ranchers and pack train cowboys who carry rifles.

One time though, way up high, I woke up at crack of dawn to yelling outside. Guys next tent out and running around. Rolled over in my bag and got up on my elbows right when the big basterd stuck his head and shoulders right through the door, took a look at me and backed off.

I jumped out, my tent roomie jumped out. The bear ambled off. Dusting ourselves off, my roomie admitted he'd brought a bag of M&M;s in his bag in case he got hungry.

But those guys are brown bears, not Grizzly Bears. And while those are all gone, and I'm a strong environmental supporter, I don't think we all much are the worse for their absense.

Egads Morrison. I have not met bears in the wild but the thought of it terrifies me. They are so unpredictable.  Do you have any stories that you can share?

Departed.

Re: Revenant- I really hate bears, having met quite a few.

I thought Leo was pretty good in the Aviator.

Karl, saw it and agree. Inception was ok too. Now the Great Gatsby, not ok.

So DiCrapio wasnt so bad in this one? That's good to know. bear scene huh? Did it remind you of Legends of the Fall?

I haven't been impressed by his acting in some movies, but DiCaprio was outstanding in "Shutter Island", a Scorsese film that has an amazing and rattling plot twist at the end. He really got shafted not getting an Oscar for it. It was outstanding, if you haven't seen it...

I saw it the other day. I thought it was a great movie. Great cinematography and scenery.

Nathan,

Now that you mention it, yes to a point. If you haven't seen it I don't want to reveal too much. And DiCaprio did a good job in this movie.

Yes I did see it, and yes I liked it. And you are correct about the drabness of the background. I still can't get over the bear scene. Where I live you can see one of those amazing animals once in awhile. And you have to get the  big ol' tub of popcorn.

I went to see it yesterday. I needed a break from the usual winter drab here in the Midwest. So I go see this movie and the entire movie is filmed in winter drab. Crikey. I could have stayed home for this. Fortunately, the theater was extra warm to offset the ice-cold scenes. I am not kidding, I was almost sweating. The movie entertained me though. One big tub of popcorn and the escape was complete.

Anyone else see it?  Enjoy it?
