Why are the russians so fond of negative dihedral?

Harrier, F-8, A-7, S-3, F-15, etc.

Generally, anhedral is less stable than dihedral...making the aircraft more manueverable.

BUT...anhedral can also be more stable...enter B-52, C-5/17/141, S-3

Why not ask this in the Aircraft forum?

Why not ask this in the Aircraft forum?

Good idea, I'd be interested to know.

For this dude, I've read that since tail horizontal stabs generally create negative lift, the anhedral on the stabs works like the dihedral on the wings.

Other reasons stated are more yaw stability.

Modeling is an excuse to buy books.

I have also heard it was to move elevators out of turbulent air from wing when wing at high angles of attack just before stall.

Anhedral is inheritantly unstable.  With fly-by-wire, a computer can overcome this instability, and the aircraft is more maneuverable.  Just about every modern fighter has anhedral, not just Russian.

I build 1/48 scale WW2 fighters.

Have fun.

I have always wondered why almost all russian a/c have anhedral.
