Indianapolis 500

Auto Racing is an international affair, and some of the best in the world race in the Indy 500.  Congratulations to Takuma Sato for driving an excellent race.  

Japan,Germany,and Italy are now US Allies for over 70 years now.

Also isn't there a large scale model of the IJN Akagi on display at Arizona Memorial Museum.

It is really more of an honor than a dishonor to WW2 vets in that we now freely work, play, and honor each others traditions freely with the Japanese.  

I guess this will be my last visit to this forum.

Geez... some folks get all uptight over something and overeact about it. Wow..

War can instill hate that can last hundreds of years. Sato hadn't even been born at the time of WWII. It's time to move on from past events that no longer apply. We also shouldn't forget that we have Japanese Americans as we did at the time of WWII that were not treated as such. I'm not mad at anyone but were all in this together.

I normally try to avoid posts like this thread, but I couldn't agree with you more Scott.  I think that its a tribute to those who fought in the past that our former enemies have become free democracies and are now our allies.

I think it is awesome that a former enemy can compete and win without hate and animosity over events that occurred 70+ years ago.  The fact that he can also is a tribute to the men and women of the United States armed forces who fought with honor, and who OCCUPIED with honor and helped rebuild the destruction we had visited on Japan to remove the leadership who created the conditions that led to the destruction in the first place.  It says good things about the human race that we can let the past be in the past.  Do we learn from it, yes, but we do not let the justifiable anger at the time turn into hated for all time.  We have all lost if hatred is left behind.

Memorial Day is supposed to honor veterans. I was abhorred to see a Japanese flag being dragged around the Indianapolis speedway. This was a dishonor to all the WWII veterans who served in the Pacific. I am even more disgusted that there has been no outcry about this.
