I write this with a lot of emotion running througn me but yesterday, the model world lost another lifelong member and a person who I am honored to have as a friend, mentor and inspiration for the last 40 years. Tom Frisque took me under his modeling wing when I was 9 years old and inspired me not only in modeling but life in general and being a good person. He spent countless hours teaching me about modeling and World War II aviation (I am sure I drive him crazy at times as a youngster ) all the while being a friend, teacher and mentor.
He was a lifelong modeler who built the most amazing and detailed 1/72 World War II aircraft and he did this without the use of normal hands (an accident while in the military damaged his hands significantly). He had such a passion for modeling and World War II aviation that he built a business, Aviation Usk, with his own line of aircraft kits which him, his wife and family members ran for many years. Additionally, he also had other projects related to World War II aviation such as editing and publishing the book "Aces and Wingmen II". Tom was one of the most gifted and sincere individuals I have ever met.
He had many other passions and lived life to the fullest. He was an avid drag racer (many amazing cars), stamp collector, teacher and positively effected the lives of everyone he came in contact with - I know how much he effected mine and I am blessed to have him as a friend for so many years.
I am honored to be asked to protect and display his collection of built 1/72 scale World War II aircraft, a duty I am proud to accept. I find comfort and a lot of responsibility to ensure his collection stays complete and displayed. I know my friend will always be with me and always remain an inspiration in not only modeling but being a good person with strong beliefs. There is so much more I can write but at the moment my emotions are getting the best of me.
