Yes I remember Armed Forces Day. One of the cities here has a parade for that every year, Supposedly the largest west of the Mississippi ...
Two other films I might recommend for. Veterans Day/Armistace Day next year are The Thin Red Line or We Were Soldiers Once. Both are quite appropriate for the November timeframe and post WWI era.
Actually I just didn't feel like watching a war movie. I've been more concerned with my own conflict with the V.A.
Maybe this weekend I might watch The Tanks Are Comming. It might be a bit sorney at times but still one of my favorites. I will not watch bloody movies. Kelly's Heroes or sink the Bismark fine but just can't get into PVT. Ryan or others like that. I have a copy of Band of Brothers and put my Father's parachute patch in the can with the CDs.
Does anybody remember Armed Forces Day? Each year when I was growing up we would go to Picatinny Arsennal for their open house. They would have demostrations, tank and weapon displays a decent museum, a bit small but the place is usually not open to the public for obvious reasons, and war games.
Tojo72 stikpusher With this November 11 being the 100th anniversary of the Armistice, I’m surprised nobody mentioned watching any WWI movies... All Quiet on the Western Front would have been a perfect choice. Both versions are pretty good !!!

Indeed. The remake had segments from the novel that were not in the original film.
I never saw that one.
I like Paths of Glory, and Fly Boys if only for the restored Strutter.
Gallipoli.
The Blue Max.
But my real favorite has to be Lawrence of Arabia.
I was in Jordan in 2010, and went from Aqaba up to Amman.
That rail line built by the Ottomans is still there.

Especially in cold hell of Bastogne during the Battle of the Bulge.
No movies yesterday, our re-enacting group did a military timeline representing the Revolution, Civil War, WWI, and WWII at Valley Forge. No war movies. Just quiet reflection to our veterans while working on the bench. Better than watching any war movies.
We don't have war movies on TV on armistace day, and it didn't really feel like the day for it, was emotional enough already. I did watch Peter Jacksons They Shall Not Grow Old on the BBC last night though.
Spent the morning at the armastice coomemroration in Bury St Edmunds and went to the lighting of our village beacon in the evening.

Nope. Put out Don's flag box, had a dinner party with the priests. One's Irish (doh!) and we talked about the great war a little. He had a great uncle who died at the Marne.
Thanks,

None, I don't have TV right now. Or more correctly, I do have a couple TVs but they aren't connected to anything. I canceled my cable 4-5 years ago, and my internet is limited bandwidth.

I recorded The Finest Hours, Destination Tokyo and Action in the North Atlantic for later viewing.
