Have a look here, NO padding AT ALL, not like your 'pussies' wear, they just need testicles the size of coconuts to play this game.

That's a dumb comment. Sometimes it pays to put brain in gear before engaging mouth.

I love the all blacks! Tougher than anyone! Also like NRL provincial Waikato Mooloo men!

Auto racing.  But I have cut the cable and there are getting to be fewer and fewer races on broadcast tv these days.

Also love airplane racing, but have not seen an airplane race on broadcast tv in many years.

Thank goodness for YouTube.  I love USAC racing and YT is the only way to see any of that:-(

Mine is NHRA drag racing. But like Don I have 'cut the cable,' so I only get to see maybe three event per year on TV.

The one time I watched a drag race on TV, an engine literally blew itself out of the car!  The commentator explained that dragsters have high capacity fuel pumps, so when the gas is mashed down and then suddenly lifted, the fuel pouring into the cylinders cause hydraulic lock, which can tear apart the engine.

While I don’t care much for drag racing, I have the utmost respect for the drivers, who only get a few seconds to do their stuff.  And I remember those Revell 1/16 dragster kits were SO cool!

I've been a football fan since childhood. My team is the New England Patriots, even remembering when they were originally the Boston Patriots.

I played football in junior high school and high school, the last two years on the varsity team.

I was a high school wrestler from the 5th grade and into college and my first year in the Army. I was decent.

I follow baseball, the Boston Red Sox, a little, not as much as I used to. I played baseball in little league, but wasn't very good.

Keavdog, that looked like the pumpout cycle on a washing machine!  Thanks for the link - now I have actually seen what I only could imagine back in the day.

I did the little league baseball and Pop Warner football as a kid, then went to motocross and desert racing motorcycles along with football and rock climbing through high school. The military curtailed my sports a bit but then went on to high power shooting and that brought on 1000 yard shooting. So I've found that most of the stuff I like is not particularly 'spectator' type sports. I tried golf for a short period but noted that if you didn't practice A LOT, you didn't improve, and I just didn't have the time for that. I did do a little bull riding back when I was bulletproof .  .  . yeah, that was fairly short-lived.

So, now its the occasional shooting, just to keep in practice, just in case .  .  . and though I'm in my sixties, I still wear body armor. A warrior at heart and practice.

"Why do I do this? Because the money's good, the scenery changes and they let me use explosives, okay?"

NHL hockey and women's soccer.  A guy can take a slapshot to the face and come back a short time later wearing a full face shield and keep playing.  I enjoy women's soccer because they play hard and don't fake 'injuries' like some of the clowns in men's soccer.  You know...guys who fall to the ground and flail around as if they've been hit point blank with a bazooka round after there has been 'contact' and in some cases no contact at all.

Just found this photo.  Exactly what I'm talking about.

I enjoy college football but not the professional sports other than women's soccer. I've been a karate instructor for 25 years and do enjoy watching a good sparring match.

From 12 years old to 20 I belonged to a cycling club in town, we trained every evening after homework was finished. We did 25 miles per night, had Saturdays off and did a club run with most of the members 20+ of us over 100 miles from 10 am to 6pm, mainly round country lanes.

When adulthood came round from say 24 onwards a race/spectator/paddock/airfield marshall at the Silverstone racing circuit about 5 miles from here, doing that for about 25 years or so.

I still follow motor and MotoGP racing, rallycross and WRC rallying and a bit of F1 and touring cars being my favourites on 4 wheels and motocross and circuit racing on 2 wheels.

When our boys were small we started off with motocross and trials riding, onto BMX and now on Mountain Bikes, one cross country the other downhill, although they are both in their late 40's!

Oh and I tried to fit in a bit of modelling along the way!

Remember , common sense is not common.

AS A SPECTATOR: Mine would have to be auto racing, closely followed by college and high school football, and then baseball. Of course watching any of this in person is much better than on the tube.

AS A PARTICIPANT: drag racing and competitive shooting.

Football vs. Rugby:

I was reading something once on "The Law of Unintended Consequences," and one of the examples used was football padding: studies showed that as football padding increased, so did injuries. Once they felt more protected, players took more chances (the same effect was found with the new safety features on cars), and as someone noted above, other players began to use this new equipment offensively.

Same here. Those riders are tough. Last year Tour de France rookie, Lawson Craddock of Austin TX, crashed in a feed zone on the first day and broke his clavicle. He managed to finish the 2000 plus miles in 21 days. While he finished last, he was able to make all the time cuts.  Everyone's favorite rider, Peter Sagan, is known for his great personality, sense of humor and amazing bike handling skills. In the time trial this year he wheelied up the steep last hill, just because he could.

Motorsports, especially Formula 1. When I watch a Formula 1 race on TV, I get to see the entire race, flag to flag, uninterrupted. It's great. ESPN/SkySports broadcast each race completely. Uninterrupted by obnoxious commercial breaks. I think that's why viewership of televised NASCAR races is dwindling. Too many commercials, not enough racing. After motorsports then comes baseball. Cardinals and the Cubs.

OK. In the stash: Way too much to build in one lifetime...

I can't understand folks posting in a thread they don't care about to say they don't care about it.  Happens quite a lot.  Why not move on.

Thanks,
