Either Johnston or Hoel.

Looks like she tore apart on the way down and the hull is in the trench, probably never to be found.

I just watched this video earlier this morning. Based on their observations it would definitely seem to be the Johnston. Agree that it tore apart on the long descent down. Amazing that they found it at that depth.

I also watched the video on the Chokai. That is some righteous video. Especially liked the footage of the rather intact bridge.

Amazing effort to find these sites.

Hi;

Although I couldn't comment there on that site. I will say the Strange wreckage with the Holes looks like it was the Wheelhouse and the Director wreckage above it.They commented there was glass in some of the holes. The Johnson, I believe was a Square Bridge Fletcher? May they always rest in Peace.

Judging by the video, she was shelled to way past scrap before sinking.  No wonder she came apart on the way down.

It's a wonder that anyone survived with the pounding she took.  Her sacrifice along with that of the other escorts saved most of the rest of Taffy 3.

I just finished rereading "Last Stand of the Tin Can Sailors" by James Hornfischer not long ago.It's an excellent telling of the story of Taffy 3. I recommend it highly.

Tom;

  That was a spell-binding book wasn't it? I also finished my third re-reading of it. T.B.
