The coupons were nice for their oil paints, supplies and such, but what I usually get there is frequently 50% off. That's too bad though. They were always an inexpensive go to for the bottle of glue or sanding stick packet that I need on occasion.

I did notice that in the Sunday paper, about every other week, they already have all model kits at 40% off.

That also means I should go grab that Revell /148 B-17 I've wanted since I probably won't be able to get it for a better price later.

The article doesn't say that HL is ending offering discounts.  They are just ending that coupon offer, and instead, will discount specific items.  As someone else noted in his reply, he found that items he wanted were discounted anyway.

So it means we need to do our research if we want to buy our hobby supplies at HL.

Well, they have been running occasional 40% discounts on model kits, to move shelf stock.  So I suspect you'd still be able to get it for the discount, but you'll just have to watch for it.

They are still running the 40% off one item discount. Time to act fast.

Your comments and questions are always welcome.

Model kits look to be currently on sale at the moment again.

I don't recall ever seeing them list model supplies or paints on sale, but I don't check the flyer weekly either.

Was going to spring for an airbrush while the coupon is still around, but those are excluded items.  Makes sense though, those are big ticket items...

I've never seen our paints in the weekly ads either.  They did away with the 40% on airbrushes a couple years ago, but I think the nozzles, needles and caps are still on the discount.  Got to pickup a couple needles and nozzles for the NEO as spares I guess.

Yeah, I wanted that Iwata brush with the grip to see if that may work with my bad hand strength.  Guess I will keep it on the wish list.

The coupon will still be running until February 28th.

I was aprised of that by my Landlady;

Now that said, I noticed the last time I was in there that the model cars were at 50% off and the planes at 40% off. Being as how I buy my paints at Hill Country Hobbies in San Antonio that is no problem. And I buy my Blades now in bulk from Micro-mark. It's cheaper that way!

If I want Testors I can get it just about anywhere around here. We have a H.L. and a Micheals and a Joann's. Plus, Besides going to Acrylic( Yeah! I pulled the trigger on it!!) I get weird colors at the Gaming shop. I guess I just had a mental block on anything but Testors. After all, they were the last hold out from the OLD Days !

If you can find one. Local store hasn't had any since the frequent all models 40% off started a couple months ago. Have had plenty of 1/48 B-25s, though.

The crafties are upset by the change in the coupon policy, or to quote the headline in the Houston Chronicle, "Coupon Moms are pissed about Hobby Lobby's Coupon Removal"

Perhaps we should just let the coupon moms fight this one out.

I’m curious to see if this has a negative effect similar to J.C.Penny when they got rid coupons. Like Hobby Lobby is planning they also lowered prices on merchandise however customers stopped shopping as frequently without the coupons and it really harmed them.

I doubt it.  HL isn't doing away with coupons, they're just doing away with the continuous 40% general coupon.  They're still going to offer discounts, but targeted, and for specific time frames.

recently, almost every other week, all model kits are listed at 40% off, so no great loss to model builders.

Ne. And aside from cars, they don't have much model selection to begin with. The supplies selection are halfway decent, but their selection of models in 1/48 aircraft and 1/35 armor has been pretty much the same kits for years now.

Yes, their armor selection is not much to write home about.

What I have been getting with 40% off coupons was their Bandai Star Wars kits. Those things are nice and the coupon makes them more than reasonable.
