HRH Prince Phillip

A real British Gentleman. I had the honour to meet him, Prince Charles and  King Constantine of Greece and his family. I was on my first duty at Silverstone as an airfield marshal.

My Air Traffic Controller told me that he had a message from a special flight incoming. It was a large helicopter of the Queens Flight. Charles was the pilot on the day. We had a group of men appeared at Air Traffic all dressed in grey suits with a white stud in the lapel, that I learnt later was Special Branch, they surrounded the helicopter after the rotor blades stopped and someone pushed me forward, to greet them all.

They all spoke to me as an equal!

That was nearly 50 years ago and I shall never forget it!

RIP Prince Philip.

It is a sad loss and my wife and I feel greatly for our Queen. I am ex RAN, my father in law was a Royal Marine, one brother in law was a Para and my other brother in law was a Para and then Brit SAS. We have strong ties to our family in the UK and all are deeply saddened by the passing of this great man.

Everything I have ever read about Prince Phillip and Queen Elizebeth seemed to indicate that their standards and behaviour always exemplified humility and dignified leadership. Those are traits that are sorely needed and often absent in today's leadership. Truly examples of "the greatest generation" in my mind.

Prince Phillip always seemed to me to be a quiet, dignified man.

My perception as well...particularly given that, as a very public figure, he had what was surely among the toughest of 'tough jobs.' He also deserves a great deal of credit for envisioning a more modern role for the Royal Family and the monarchy in a world that had changed a great deal from the one he was raised in.

Reportedly, he was a very down-to-earth figure with a rather wry and puckish sense of humor...both qualities that I have always much admired.

 Bish My heart goes out to you, your Countrymen and the Royal family at this time. He was the personification of Dignity and Yet told it like he saw it. May he rest in Peace!

I've always felt a curious and unexplainable attachment to, and admiration for Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip.

I understand that this is a very real loss to you, and you have my sincere condolences my friend.

Prince Phillip always seemed to me to be a quiet, dignified man. How long were the Queen and Price Phillip married? Seventy-five years?
