As an owner of two cats, I am completely qualified to say your cat is batpoop crazy.  And very lucky.

Nah.  Just a cat being a cat.  Never dreamed in a million years he'd be able to pick something like that up so easily.

Just get an X3724 blade handle and you'll never have to worry about a knife rolling off the bench and getting you again.  Got one just because my cat likes to come up and "help" me sometimes. Big Smile

Also found out I need to be more careful about leaving straight-edged razor blades on the benchtop for any length of time beyond a couple of seconds.  The cat actually, quite easily, picked one up by hooking it with a single claw...then...HE POPPED IT RIGHT INTO HIS MOUTH AND RAN OFF!  I thought I had killed my cat!  Luckily, I just avoided a panic response to run after him and just followed him slowly.  He turned and looked at me, and then just dropped it like it was nothin, since I wasn't making it fun for him by chasing him.  No injuries.  WHEW!!!

Try applying CA glue to a piece held between thumb and forefinger and middle finger, and watching as you realize that the glue is flowing down into your fingers.  Then try opening the can of acetone, popping the safety cap with a screwdriver.  That was fun.  In the end, I had to agree with the manufacturer's claim of quick-flowing and fast-curing.

Knocked over a bottle of thin CA, most ended up on a pants leg.  Got hot and smoking almost instantly. Managed to not stick to leg, but cloth was brittle as glass and broke cleanly in two when bent.

Agree with Cat, mumbly peg with a #11 blade is a loosing proposition.

Ah yes, the ever enjoyable fast setting CA. Get's hot too!! I ve several pairs of, now work pants, that have little hard darker spots on them form CA. And the Xacto! if it rolls off the workbench...let it go and hope it doesn't fall blade down into your foot. I've heard too many storys of folks trying to catch the errant xacto knife.

Why do you think the Testers liquid glue is in a square bottle? So dummies like me don't spill them as much. I can't tell you how mant bottles of paint, glue, microsol ETC I've spilled. And as for the knife, when I was your age my parents were constantly taking me down to the emergency room to sew my thumbs back together. I thought for the longest time my thumbprints would never grow back to normal.

But like everything else in life, this too shall pass

Now that you've been initiated into the "I spilled (fill in the blank) and made a huge mess" club, your next stop is the "Guess how many stitches I got for this goof up?!?" club.

Hint; don't sit at the bench in bare feet, flip flops, crocks, or anything else less than armored boots. And be very careful to hold onto the knife.

Just sayin.

On one of my first attempts to use crazy glue, sitting at our expensive, new dining table, I tipped the tall, skinny bottle over and instantly had a small lake of the stuff just waiting to do evil. Fortunately, I'd covered the table with a plastic drop sheet, but in my haste to soak up the crazy glue with a paper towel, I managed to get it on my hands, my cutting pad, and on some tools.

The paper towel didn't burn or even smoke, but some of my fingers were glued together and laminated with paper towel scraps, and the tools, while useable, look a permanent mess. It took me the better part on an hour to unstick my fingers, using lots of hot water and soap, a stiff nail brush, and not-very-effective nail polish remover that my wife has. I even removed some skin from my fingertips in the process.

Oh my... I hope you recovered well man

OUCH!!! Now that is a bad spill and the worst of all. At least with paint one can clean up things but CA will do some crazy things to finishes and skin.Surprise

On the bench: A diorama to illustrate the crash of a Beech T-34B Mentor which I survived in 1962 (I'm using Minicraft's 1/48 model of the Mentor), and a Pegasus model of the submarine Nautilus of 20,000 Leagues Under the Seas fame.

Not quite the same thing, but I remember at work as a teenager in the 70's, I dropped a water cooler bottle, back then they were glass, you wouldn't believe how far five gallons of water travels indoors.

Hey when I was a teen I spilt a bottle of blue enamel off my bench on to my bare legs. Took 2 hours of cleaning with thinner soaked rags to clean myself up

Tell your dad at least it wasn't a gallon. I was at work, picked up a fresh tightly closed gallon of laquer paint to throw in the mixer, lost my grip, dropped it, lid blew off, a full gallon of paint all over the floor. Took me a half hour to clean up the mess.

Oh my gosh... It must be so infuriating rip.

Your dad must not be a modeler lol. Spills are sometimes unavoidable. I have been modeling since the 1970s and once in a blue moon I goof and spill something. Speaking of which, had a small spill last week when I accidentally knocked over the small plastic bottle of CA accelerator. A well worn bench will have some stains so no worries there and welcome to the elite group of spillers. Propeller

I cover the top of my bench with contact paper.  Glue or paint spills are not a ploblem- when surface gets bad, I rip off the old vinyl and put down new.

My workshop is tiled with 12 inch square vinyl tiles.  They don't all match- I look for ones on scale.  Never paid more than ninety cents a tile so far, but I see inflation coming.  They sweep much easier than concrete.  I can replace a tile or two easily if I spill paint or otherwise damage a tile.

Back to the bench
And speaking of accidents with glue it is worth noting that if you place a large enough quantity of CA glue (aka super glue) in direct contact with natural cotton fibers it will generate heat. If there is enough glue and cotton, say almost half a bottle on the leg of a pair of blue jeans it will actually generate enough heat to start smoldering and get very unpleasant very quickly! Please don't ask how I know this lol.

Depending on the CA, that same thing can happen with paper towels too.  When I use Sprue Brothers Insta-Cure super thin CA, I always have a little chunk of paper towel tightly rolled into a wick to draw away any excess CA that inevitably gets on the part I'm gluing.  Within a few seconds of wicking up the excess, the paper towel chunk starts rolling smoke.

Did not know that, thanks for the info.

Sorry to hear that happened, but it is pretty much inevitible if you build models as a hobby.

A few things I have seen people do to help prevent it from happening. Take a scrap piece of wood (small piece of 2x4 etc.) and drill a hole through the wood that is just large enough for your paint bottle to slide through. Now if that piece of wood is placed on your bench and the bottle is inserted in the hole it is almost impossible to tip the bottle over. I have also seen people use rolls electrical tape that had a center hole that conveniently fit the paint bottles that they were using. This technique can also be used for bottles of glue which can cause all kinds of unpleasant fun when they are knocked over.

Hope your paints and glues cooperate in the future and happy modeling.

Well Now:

Welcome to the Club. We are known by lots of names too. Model Nuts, Toy Builders, Wood Hobbyists and Model everything else Builders. If we Didn't spill at least four Bottles of paint and six bottles of Glue in fifty years we ain't doin Nuttin!

I still look at the Marbled Table Top and think of what a specific color means! When We moved into a new house years ago( Just when Corian was starting to be used) we had a home office space off the kitchen. I spilled some Purple Floquil on it. The Missus banned me from the kitchen( My shop Area wasn't finished yet.)

The Corian Was Pearl White! Well, I talked with Customer service ( I actually talked to a Person! ) from the Manufacturer. Mama was out getting her hair and nails done. When He told me what to do I did it. Just got it cleaned up as she was pulling into the driveway!

When she saw the Pearl White Pristine Top she accused me of getting a new one. I showed her a spot of Purple in a spot no one else would think to look. Never heard a peep again! Then This morning Before coming here I spilled coffee all over the kitchen counter in my landlady's house. Go Figure! She has Natural( Unpainted,Unsealed Cabinet fronts!)

Sorry to hear your dad got mad....be willing to bet he is really glad you are not doing other things. Stains are memories, you can look back and say " hey Dad you remember when I spilled paint all over my desk?"...graduating colledge next week, I cherish that memory dad. Stuff happens, I have been doing this for 40yrs and still go to the store with painted nails. It will be ok, there are worse things you could spill. If dad has an issue then he can talk to me.

Hah! That is funny.
